Going La La by Alexandra Potter
“Going La La” is by English author, Alexandra Potter,
In the days leading up to Frankie’s 29th birthday, her world falls apart. She loses her job and just as she thinks her handsome loving boyfriend Hugh, is about to propose to her, she suddenly finds herself single and homeless.
Not one to wallow in self pity, she hops on the first flight to Los Angles and joins her best friend on her journey to becoming an actress. Whilst Rita tries to make her mark in Holywood, Frankie’s own goal is to simply get over Hugh and to sort her own life out. She does not intend to go to America, fall for Reilly the hunky photographer and run away for Las Vegas.
But when Hugh suddenly realises that he has made an mistake and follows her to Las Vegas, Frankie discovers that she has to make a choice, return to the man that she loved for the last two years or is it a case of what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas?
I have enjoyed Alexandra Potter books for a number of years. I liked her stories of love and mystery. And I although I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I did think it had a different style to her previous offerings, but this was not a bad thing. I thought the characters and the language was a little bit cruder than her other books, but having said I did find myself smirking or chuckling at her best friend Rita. She was a breath of fresh air in Frankie’s sad world, her quips and witty catchphrases made for funny reading. It was hard not to fall for the loud, bold Lanchashire lass. With the addition of the hunky, Reilly and Hugh, the English gentleman, there was a man to cater for all women’s needs.
Wonderfully written, with quirky and occasionally rude characters, “Going La La” is the perfect break-up read and just goes to show, there are plenty of more fish in the sea.
