As tensions reach breaking point, the irrevocable choice that one of them made all those years ago is about to surface. After years of secrets and silence, how can one broken family find their way back to each other?

A few years ago, Hannah released a book called ‘The Dead Wife’s Handbook’ and now she’s returned to our bookshelves with a new publisher and new story, that has left its readers in bits.

The story is seen through the perspective of mother and her two daughters. Once Audrey, receives the news that she’s dying, she’s determined to get her two daughters, Jess and Lily talking again after over 20 years of falling out. Only, Jess knows the truth of the falling out and this has impacted the whole family, relationships, past and future.

As Audrey’s health deteriorates, we see a strong and independent woman adamant that her daughters reconcile and finally be the family that she has always wanted. Her youngest daughter Jess is an angry and stubborn, who can’t stand her older sister and has prevented her daughter and niece from having a relationship as well. Whilst older daughter, Lily has spent the last number of years wondering why her sister suddenly took against her and trying to keep the peace for her mother’s sake. All three women are struggling with life as well as harbouring secrets that have tore the family apart.

This story is quite the heartbreaker and really should come with a warning. A rollercoaster from the first page, we meet a determined woman willing to put her illness aside for the sake of rescuing her family. The story is written in the past and present tense and really sets the scene for the broken family, that once doted on each other, but now can’t stand to be in the same room as each other.

The compelling story is quite the tearjerker that really pulls the reader in, ‘If Only I Could Tell You’ is a tender and poignant story about family, secrets and loss and is perfect for fans of Jojo Moyes.
