Just For Christmas By Scarlett Bailey

Just For Christmas‘Just For Christmas’ is the latest book by Christmas author Scarlett Bailey.

When Alex Munro learns that the love of her life is getting married to another girl, all she wants is to be alone and as far away from Edinburgh as possible. Moving to a Cornish cottage, which comes complete with the world’s scruffiest dog, Alex finds that her new neighbours are determined to involve her in their madcap Christmas festivities. Then she meets her sexy neighbour, Ruan and somehow Alex doesn’t want to be alone this Christmas after all. But having lost one fiancée, Ruan has no intention of letting anyone get close to him again.

‘Just For Christmas’ is simply a lovely and funny story that had me hooked from the very start. Set in a small shipping village, filled with fun and quirky characters, this romantic comedy was delicious. Alex Munro is an unlikely female lead, a sweet and kind woman with a heart of gold. A tomboy at heart, she is unaware of her presence or her beauty as she hides away under baggy jumpers and is secretly in love with her oblivious and mostly annoying best friend Marcus.

in her job as Harbour Master, the villagers are unprepared for Alex, expecting a man to be doing the job, they are surprised to see a woman in charge of their harbour and with some heavily old-fashioned men, Alex finds it a challenge of prove her worth to the close knit community whilst making new friends along the way.

‘Just For Christmas’ is a wonderful story that I settled into pretty much straight away. The marvellous thing about Scarlett and her writing, is that she creates such inspirational and fun characters, that you feel a genuine connection with them and feel like you can’t put the book down until everything is settled, people are reconciled and we all get our happy ever afters. With this book in particular, I really enjoyed it, I loved Alex, how as a newcomer, people warmed to her and felt a connection that they could confide in her without feeling judged or misunderstood. She seemed to provide a calming presence in the rocky waters.

There were other wonderful characters that were a delight to read, particularly Ruan, the rugged gentleman who caught Alex’s eye. Lucy, the sweet barmaid that Alex forms a new friendship with and finally Buoy, the stubborn dog who resides in Alex’s new house and refuses to leave, following her every move and even claiming her bed.

A marvellous story from start to finish, ‘Just For Christmas’ is the perfect Christmas book to curl up with, beautifully written with captivating characters and a scruffy dog, I couldn’t put it down.
