What if your estate agent could find you not just your perfect house, but your perfect job, your perfect partner… your perfect new life? On paper, Iris Atkins is an estate agent, but she’s not just good at finding suitable houses for her clients. In fact, she has a gift: Iris is able to see into their lives and understand exactly what is missing and what they need – and not just in bricks-and-mortar terms either. Of course, concentrating so much on fixing other people’s problems doesn’t leave much time for examining your own. Over the course of one whirlwind year Iris discovers that while she may know what’s best for everyone else, she doesn’t necessarily know what’s best for herself – and what she finds out could make her happier than she’d ever dreamed of.

‘Love Or Nearest Offer’ is the first book I’ve read by Adéle and I genuinely enjoyed this story about love and starting over.

The story is seen through the narrative of the four main characters Iris, Vina, Aidan and Josie, all looking for their perfect homes with the help of estate agent, Iris.

Iris, is a strong willed woman who has given up on her OCD boyfriend and returned home to her mother’s house, much to the shock of her mother, June and her settled friends, who think Iris needs to get her life sorted before her biological clock stops ticking. But Iris, is more interested in finding the perfect house for her clients rather than children and believes there’s more to life than settling down with a family.

Both Aidan and Vina have decided to sell their houses and move on with their lives. Vina is a divorced woman who’s children have left the nest. Lonely and neglected, she decides a new beginning is in order and contacts Iris, who unintentionally introduces Vina to Aidan. Aidan is a widower, who’s loved no other woman since his wife’s death. Like Vina, he decides to leave his past behind and they tentatively start a new, sweet relationship as they both search for their new homes.

Finally, Josie is convinced that if, she, her husband Will and their little boy, Zak leave the bustling city behind for a quieter pace of life, then they will finally have the perfect life they have been striving to achieve.

I started this book last night and I couldn’t put it down. The story flowed at a gentle and easy pace that made it easy and enjoyable to read. The characters are a lovely mix of young and old and the different generations give an interesting insight into how relationships develop over the years.

Written in a style that made for compelling reading, packed with twists and turns, ‘Love Or Nearest Offers’ is a wonderful story about love and second chances.
