[amazon_link id=”1447252772″ target=”_blank” ]The Extra Ordinary Of Frank Derrick Aged 81[/amazon_link]’The Extra Ordinary Of Frank Derrick Aged 81′ is the latest book by J.B. Morrison.

Frank Derrick is eighty-one. And he’s just been run over by a milk float.
It was tough enough to fill the hours of the day when he was active. But now he’s broken his arm and fractured his foot, it looks set to be a very long few weeks ahead. Frank lives with his cat Bill (which made more sense before Ben died) in the typically British town of Fullwind-on-Sea. He watches DVDs, spends his money frivolously at the local charity shop and desperately tries to avoid cold callers continually knocking on his door.

Then a breath of fresh air comes into his life in the form of Kelly Christmas, home help. With her little blue car and appalling parking, her cheerful resilience and ability to laugh at his jokes, Kelly changes Frank’s extra ordinary life. She reminds him that there is a world beyond the four walls of his flat and that there is a world beyond the four walls of his flat and that adventures, however small, come to people of all ages.

I fell in love with Frank Derrick, I thought he was the most sweet and charming man that would be fun to have as a Grandad.

Living a lonely existence since his wife Shelia died, he spends his time trawling the charity buying other peoples useless tat and visiting his friend Smelly John who likes to terrorises his fellow nursing home companions. Confined to his wheelchair, Smelly John enjoys nothing more than be carried about by his carer Graham, who he believes is a racist. When Frank and Smelly John are together, the scenes are quite often hilarious as they share stories of the war and being the original punk rockers with the Sex Pistols.

It’s through Frank’s, new found relationship with Kelly that he seems to have found a new lust for life. Even through he has limited movement, he finds a new passion and zest with Kelly’s visits as he counts down the days to her next meeting and finds himself finding a new confidence and strength to overcome things that men his age would not normally do. But as he grows stronger, Kelly’s visits will have to stop and Frank goes about finding funding to keep her coming resulting in hilarious situations.

With a beautifully bright and vibrant blue cover this book is deliciously warm and witty from the very start and had me chuckling from the very start. Written in the third person, the story is a honest and an observant story, that highlights the loneliness of life in a gentle and humorous style. Filled with sweet characters and funny one liners and scenarios, ‘The Extra Ordinary Life Of Frank Derrick Aged 81’ is a funny and uplifting story that is also life affirming and shows how just a little bit of company can go a long way.

A little bit of information about J.B. Morrison, he was born in London ages ago to his two parents, Frank and Jenny, J.B. Morrison is a musician and already the author of two novels – Storage Stories and Driving Jarvis Ham. Goodnight Jim Bob is an autobiographical account of his ten years as singer with punk-pop band Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine.

With Carter USM J. B. Morrison had 14 top 40 singles and a number one album. He played all over the world, headlined Glastonbury and was sued by The Rolling Stones. He’s also made a ton of solo albums and written the screenplay for a film. Plus he was in a musical, in 2010 at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Is there no end to his talents? Yes. Everything not mentioned here. Don’t ask him to put up a shelf or cook you dinner. The shelf will fall off the wall and you won’t like the food.

As part of the book tour for ‘The Extra Ordinary Life Of Frank Derrice Aged 81’, I am quite excited to have a video of J.B. reading the first chapter of the book and also delighted to reveal the accompanying soundtrack to the book is by none other than one of my favourite bands ‘The Eels’!
