The Girl At The Window By Rowan Coleman

The Girl In The Window‘The Girl At The Window’ is the exciting new book from Rowan Coleman.

Ponden Hall is a centuries-old house on the Yorkshire moors, a magical place full of stories. It’s also where Trudy Heaton grew up. And where she ran away from. Now, after the devastating loss of her husband, she is returning home with her young son, Will, who refuses to believe his father is dead. While Trudy tries to do her best for her son, she must also attempt to build bridges with her eccentric mother. And then there is the Hall itself: fallen into disrepair but generations of lives and loves still echo in its shadows, sometimes even reaching out to the present.

Rowan is back with another romantic and historical story that is perfect for all Brontë fans and is seen primarily through the eyes of Trudy, who has returned to her homestead after the tragic disappearance of her husband. Alone with her little boy called Will, she goes back to Ponden Hall to live with her mother, an outspoken and robust woman who never quite forgave her daughter for leaving and getting pregnant at such a young age.

Ponden Hall was the home of the Brontë Sisters and is now a national treasure, it’s rundown and in need of repairs and Trudy is hoping to raise funds the to repair the family home, she’s also hoping that this will distract her from thinking about her husband called Abe who disappeared whilst working in Brazil. But whilst sorting through the repairs for Ponden Hall, Trudy comes across some new material about the Brontë Sisters and the secrets contained within the house. But as Trudy begins to uncover the mystery of Ponden Hall, it seems that there’s a presence that wants to make itself known.

I loved this book, it’s the perfect story to curl up with. It’s a heartwarming and magical tale that really hooks the reader in. The setting is so atmospheric with the old and brooding house which is the main character in the story. It’s history had such a strong presence, as well as the turbulent relationship between Trudy and her Ma which makes for funny and poignant reading as the pair of them work together to solve the mystery of Ponden Hall.

There’s also the sub story of the mystery that Trudy is trying to solve, of a young woman trying to get back with her love and this makes for fascinating reading.

Wonderfully researched, this book is a fantastic story with a stunning cover, ‘The Girl In The Window’ is a story of grief, new beginnings and a haunted house with a perfect combination of history and romance, another stellar story from Rowan.
