At her beloved husband’s funeral, Carla Pride discovers that Martin never divorced his first wife and has been living a double life with her. And his other wife, Julie Pride, is determined to take everything from Carla – her home, her money, and her memories. When Will Linton’s business goes bust he at least thinks that with the support of his trophy wife Nicole he will rise to the top again. But Nicole isn’t going to stick around with ‘a loser’ and Will finds himself at rock bottom. Molly Jones is being bullied into going into a retirement home by her ‘concerned’ daughter-in-law Sherry and son Gram. Then the love of Molly’s life walks in through her door – a man who broke Molly’s heart into little pieces many years ago. But he says he is dying and wants to spend the time he has left with her. All people in need of a little love and compassion which they find by chance in the stationery and teashop on the corner run by the ever-cheerful Leni, a woman that site developer Shaun McCarthy finds annoying beyond annoying for her ability to remain unrealistically upbeat about everything. But is the world of Leni Merryman as full of rainbows and sparkles as everyone thinks? Or is her smile papering over many cracks in her heart that will soon be shattered unwittingly by her new friends?

As per usual Milly has delivered another book that is packed with charm, wit and a little dash of mystery. In ‘The Teashop On The Corner’ we see a group of people, coming from all walks of life develop a deep bond through their love of good tea and books and through this strong bond, they find themselves being there for each other during the hardest of times.

The story is seen through the eyes of the leading characters, Carla Pride whose life falls apart on the day of her so-called husband’s life, discovering that her whole life was a lie and finding her the subject of the village gossip mongers, she decides to hold her head up head and move on. Making a few new friends along the way including a black cat. Molly Jones, is an elderly woman living alone in a huge house much to her son’s and cake loving wife’s disgust. Molly has never recovered after since the true love of her life, Harvey walked out on her but one day Harvey returns to her claiming forgiveness. Whilst Will Linton, has to live with the embarrassment of going bankrupt whilst his gold-digging wife quickly scampers to find more rich men to fund her love of designer bags and shoes.

All these people find themselves coming to the new teashop, where they all become friends and find themselves offering shoulders and hearty discussions about their favourite heroines and villains from their favourite books. The person who brings them all together is Leni Merryman, the happy and always smiling owner of the teashop, filling the shops with literary themed gifts and memorabilia. She brings a ray of sunshine to the small village and welcomes people into her small shop, offering them a sanctuary and an escape of the troubles of life, but behind her cheery disposition, Leni hides a sadness. I loved all the characters in this book, but I did find that I enjoyed Leni most, maybe it’s because like her, I also have a passion for stationary and found myself nearly clapping with excitement each time, Leni got a new delivery of treats into the shop. I thought Leni was a lovely, caring character, willing to give people new chances and offering company to those who were lonely. Another character that I also enjoyed was Harvey, his quick tongue and argumentative side made for funny reading.

A lovely story from the beginning, this book was a delight to read. It was a book that made me with smile at the sweetness of the characters and also made me shed a little tear at the more tender moments. Filled with friendship, cake and a sprinkle of magic, ‘The Teashop On The Corner’ is a feel good and absorbing story that made for perfect storytelling. I enjoyed it immensely.
