The Temptation Of Lila And Ethan By Jessica Sorensen

[amazon_link id=”0751552267″ target=”_blank” ]The Temptation Of Lila And Ethan[/amazon_link]’The Temptation of Lila And Ethan’ is the latest book by Jessica Sorensen.

Ella’s best friend Lila has always been a good girl who likes pretty clothes and preppy boys. But ever since the first day she met Micha’s best friend Ethan, she hasn’t been able to stop thinking about him.

Girls have always flocked to Ethan — but never princesses like Lila. And until Lila came into his life he never wanted them to. From the outside the two couldn’t seem more different, but somehow they have a connection deeper and more intense than anyone could have imagined. Can two people from such dramatically different worlds really have a love that lasts?

I have been a fan of Jessica for over a year now, falling in love with her stories of angst ridden and emotionally charged characters, whose turbulent lives make for dramatic reading and with ‘The Temptation Of Lila And Ethan’, this story is quite a journey.

Lila and Ethan meet through the relationship of their best friends Micha and Ella but when Micha and Ella move away to start a new life together, Lila and Ethan remain friends. Trying to block her troubled past and controlling parents, Lila finds solace in drink and drugs regularly waking up in strangers beds, she relies on Ethan to look out for her and Ethan finds himself looking for meaningless sex to try to fight the feelings that he has developed for Lila. Together they find themselves reluctantly attracted to each other but they are worried that if they act on these feelings, their friendship will be ruined. Unaware that Lila has a self destruct button, Ethan finds himself investing a lot more into the relationship than just late night taxi services.

Seen from alternating chapters of the characters, we read flashbacks of their pasts and discover just where things went wrong in their lives. Lila is deliciously feisty but has a reputation as she flits from one night stand to the next, pretending not to care what people think of her, she hides her lack of self esteem and worth through a barrier of attitude and substance abuse. Ethan is a character has is easy to fall for, with smouldering good looks and an arrogant attitude that makes for entertaining reading.

The thing that I have come to realise with Jessica’s writing is that she created a very successful formula that can be adapted for all her books. They all feature young adults trying to hide from their troubled pasts or dealing with issues and they develop a kinship with each other helping to face up to their problems such as drug abuse, family fights and rape. ‘The Temptation Of Lila And Ethan’ is exactly like that, both Lila and Ethan have had hard lives that they are running from and with this common common ground, they form not only a friendship but love for one another.

Written against the backdrop of poverty and despair, Jessica has written another gripping story consumed with sexual tension of young love, problems shared and friendships bonded.
