One decision + two different paths = how many happy endings? Have you ever wondered ‘What if…?’ What if you’d taken that other job, gone on a date with that sweet guy, moved to a different city? Would an alternative life path have led to a happier ending? Now imagine if you could have taken both paths…When Bea Bishop slips while walking down the aisle on her wedding day, she is momentarily knocked unconscious. And in a flash, her world splits and two separate parallel lives take her on two very different journeys. In one, Bea flees back down the aisle and out of the church. In the other, she glides blissfully towards Adam, her intended. Each path will take her on a very different journey. And each will see her life change for better and for worse. But which story will lead to her happy-ever-after?

I thought this book was a beautifully written story that gripped me from the start. The story is seen from the perspective of the protagonist of the story Bea, on the day that she is to marry the love of her life Adam. But as she walks down the aisle towards him about to commit, a face from her past in the congregation catches her attention causing her to fall over and knock herself out. From that point on, the story then divides into two alternative story lines, almost in a ‘Sliding Door’s’ style where in one world Bea says I do and in another she says no.

The story is cleverly and intricately written showing how just how different your life can be just by saying yes. Each chapter is an alternative life for Bea and Ali has smartly included a Facebook status update with each chapter to keep the reader well informed of the current life that they were reading.

Bea is a sweet character, but one who doesn’t like to make decisions and prefers others to take control of situations. Holding herself responsible for a tragedy that happened years ago, she has low esteem and after her father walked out on his family when she was a child, fears that she will do the same. Suffering from anxiety and stress, she feels most relaxed and content pottering amongst the garden, an activity that she particularly enjoyed with her father. Throughout the story there is a sweet inclusion of diary entries from Bea’s father’s sharing his tips and love of gardening and thought this particularly made for tender reading, as it brings back happy memories for Bea and when we read these parts, they seem like genuinely happy moments for the character.

A poignant story that tugs at the heartstrings, ‘Written In The Stars’ is the story for anyone who has ever wondered what if? Filled with sweet and troubled characters that you long for them to find their place in life, this story is an emotional roller coaster of a tale that is not only sad but uplifting at the same time. A heartwarming story that was impossible to put down!
