Books and the City Spring Blogger Event 2019

Books and the City Spring Blogger Event 2019With being based in Northern Ireland, I sometimes miss out on book events, so when the lovely Sara Jade Virture from Books and the City invited me to their Spring Bloggers event, I literally jumped on a plane.

It was a wonderful evening, packed with fellow book lovers and some of Books and the City authors and we got the chance to hear extracts from Iona Grey’s new book called ‘The Glittering Hour’, Alice Peterson’s ‘If You Were Here’, Claire Frost’s debut novel called ‘Living My Best Life’, Milly Johnson’s latest book ‘The Magnificent Mrs Mayhem’ and Rachel Hore’s new book ‘The Lost Child’.

As well as the delicious readings, we were also given proofs of Paige Toon’s new book called ‘If I Could Anywhere’ as well as Catherine Isaac’s new book called ‘Messy, Wonderful Us’.

As per usual Sara Jade’s goodie bags were a delight filled with samples from upcoming books, sweetie flavoured shower gel as well as beautiful book themed necklace and who can forget the cupcakes!

It was also lovely to chat to Louise Candlish about her hugely successful book called ‘Our House’ as well as meet Heidi Swain, Juliet Ashton and Alice Peterson, as well as I finally got a photograph with Milly Johnson.

A huge thank you to Sara Jade and the Books and the City team for organising a wonderful evening and the generous gifts.

Snowflakes and Cinnamon Swirls at the Winter Wonderland By Heidi Swain

Snowflakes and Cinnamon Swirls at the Winter Wonderland‘Snowflakes and Cinnamon Swirls at the Winter Wonderland’ is the latest book by Heidi Swain.

After calling off her engagement, Hayley, the Wynthorpe Hall housekeeper, wants nothing more than to return to her no-strings fun-loving self, avoiding any chance of future heartbreak. Little does she know, Wynbridge’s latest arrival is about to throw her plan entirely off course. Moving into Wynthorpe Hall to escape the town’s gossip, Hayley finds herself immersed in the eccentric Connelly family’s festive activities as they plan to host their first ever Winter Wonderland. But Hayley isn’t the only new resident at the hall. Gabe, a friend of the Connelly’s son Jamie, has also taken up residence, moving into Gatekeeper’s Cottage, and he quickly makes an impression on Wynbridge’s reformed good-girl. As preparations commence for the biggest event of the season, the pair find themselves drawn ever closer to one another, but unbeknownst to Hayley, Gabe, too, has a reason for turning his back on love, one that seems intent on keeping them apart.

I spent the last few days reading this book and it really got me into the festive season.

The story is seen through through the perspective of Hayley, who’s looking forward to getting married and spending the rest of her life with Gavin until she finds out that he’s been cheating on her. She starts a new life in her workplace called Wyhthorpe Hall, where she has friends there looking out for her. Whilst she starts over, a newcomer arrives in the village. A handsome man called Gabe, quiet and brooding, Hayley finds herself drawn to him and his mysterious, gentle nature.

As the story progresses, we see Hayley grow in confidence and become a stronger woman as her friend rally around her and encourage her to continue with her dreams. Together the team of friends, go about creating the most magical Christmas for the village.

A heartwarming story from the very beginning, this book was a joy to read. The characters were charming and relatable with their situations in life. I loved Hayley and thought she was a lovely character who grew in strength with each chapter.

Sweetly written with warmth and love throughout, ‘Snowflakes And Cinnamon Swirls At The Winter Wonderland’ is a tender and fun Christmas story that is perfect to curl up with.

You can buy Snowflakes and Cinnamon Swirls at the Winter Wonderland from Amazon and is availble to buy from good bookshops.

Sunshine And Sweet Peas In Nightingale Square By Heidi Swain

Sunshine And Sweetpeas In Nightingale Square’Sunshine And Sweet Peas In Nightingale Square’ is the latest book by Heidi Swain.

Kate is on the run from her almost-divorced husband who is determined to have her back, and she has found the perfect place to hide… a little cottage on Nightingale Square in Norwich, far away from her old life in London. But the residents of Nightingale Square don’t take no for an answer, and Kate soon finds herself pulled into a friendship with Lisa, her bossy but lovely new neighbour. Within a matter of days Kate is landed with the job of campaigning the council to turn the green into a community garden, meanwhile all the residents of Nightingale Square are horrified to discover that the Victorian mansion house on the other side of the square has been bought by developers. But when all hope is lost, the arrival of a handsome stranger is sure to turn things around.

I genuinely loved this book and the characters in it. Kate is a fun and fascinating character who is brave enough to go it alone even though she still loves her ex-husband, who’s quite slimy.

As she settles into her new life, she makes new friends who welcome her warmly into the area. I particularly loved Lisa, a boisterous and warm hearted character who knows everything and wants to know everything.

The story is fun and is also quite mysterious as Kate begins to delve into the history of the small square. There is also the inclusion of a handsome man called Luke, who brings a new energy and charisma to the tale.

Sweetly written with lovely characters, this book is the perfect standalone story to enjoy, but it also makes references to previous novels that I want to look into. A charming story about new beginnings, ‘Sunshine And Sweet Peas In Nightingdale Square’ is a lovely story with a beautiful cover.

You can buy from Amazon [\amazon_link] and is available to buy from good bookshops.

Heidi Swain Writers Tips

“HeidiHeidi Swain shares her writing tips with budding writers.

I think the most important thing is to just keep writing. The more you practice, the better you’ll get. Push yourself to find the time and make the commitment to write every day and don’t abandon projects before you’ve written or typed The End. Every piece of fiction, no matter how short or long will have tricky patches but you have to work through them otherwise you’ll never learn how to finish anything.
