How To Stuff Up Christmas By Rosie Blake

How To Stuff Up Christmas’How To Stuff Up Christmas’ is the latest book by Rosie Blake.

Eve is heartbroken after discovering her fiancé is cheating on her. Being surrounded by the joys of Christmas is more than Eve can bear, so she chooses to avoid the festivities by spending Christmas alone on a houseboat in Pangbourne. Eve gets gets an unexpected seasonal surprise when handsome local vet Greg comes to her rescue one day, and continues to visit Eve’s boat on a mission to transform her from Kitchen Disaster Zone to Culinary Queen. But where does Greg keep disappearing to? What does Eve’s best friend Daisy know that she isn’t telling? And why is there an angry goose stalking Eve’s boat?

Rosie Blake is back with another comedic, roller coaster of a story packed with tender moments, adventures on narrow boats and a hyperactive Morkie. The story is primarily seen through the eyes of Eve, a heartbroken, young woman who hasn’t quite recovered after the supposed love of her life and fiancee Liam cheated on her. Suddenly alone with a dog, that she isn’t used to, Eve dreads the Christmas particularly as her family are putting pressure on her to spend the seasonal time with them. Touched at their concern, Eve would love to be cuddled up in the family bosom but she would prefer to be alone and lick her wounds. So, in a state of anxiety, she signs herself up for a pottery course in the middle of no-where where her home for the time, is a narrowboat.

There is also the inclusion of Greg, the village vet who is admired by loved and admired by many with his kind and gentle nature. He befriends Eve, taking her under his wing and introducing her to the village and life on a narrowboat and the two of them become tentative friends, but Greg harbour a secret from Eve that prevents him from getting her too close to her even though the sweet pair have a mutual attraction towards each other.

The story is packed with deliciously, fabulous characters that really do for entertaining reading. Eve is a sweetheart, who you desperately want to have her happy ever after and find yourself urging herself on and getting out there. Her family are extremely funny, particularly her dad with his crazy clothes due to his colour blindness and her mother who is in a constant of panic. Greg is also wonderful, seeing his new friendship with both Eve and Marmite, her little Morkie dog progress, which makes for insightful reading as we see the story through his eyes. The story flows at a lovely fresh pace, with some surprising twists and turns that do make for shocking reading and laugh out loud reading.

How To Get A (Love) Life By Rosie Blake

How To Get A (Love) Life‘How To Get A (Love) Life’ is Rosie Blake’s first book.

Some people book last-minute holidays, walk barefoot in the grass or party on a week night. Not Nicola Brown. Nicola is the kind of girl who double-locks the front door, leaves the plastic covering on new furniture, sticks to a super-strict diet and definitely, absolutely Does Not Date.

Her colleague Caroline – loopy, warm and exasperated by her, knows that Nicola’s reluctance to lose control means she’s living only half a life. And so she lays down the gauntlet: Nicola must cast aside her hang ups and go on as many dates as it takes to find true love in time for Valentine’s Day.

The pick of local men is, quite frankly, a bit rubbish. And there are only three months until February 14th. Surely it’s an impossible task? But, as Nicola is about to find out on her dodgy dates, letting go isn’t quite as scary as she imagined. In fact, it’s rather a lot of fun…

This story is lovely and short and can easily be consumed in one seating.

The story is seen from the perspective of Nicola, a nice girl with a slight case of OCD and a love of routines, who suddenly realises that she no longer wants to be alone. So, with the help of her bubbly and outspoken work colleague Caroline and bat obsessed brother Mark, Nicola decides to break the mould and step outside her comfort zone and try her hand at online dating with the intention of finding true love by Valentine’s Day.

I loved this story, I thought it was a delicious and fun tale packed with fun characters and unfortunate scenarios that made for laugh out loud reading.

Our heroine of the story is Nicola, a straight laced girl who through scenes of flashbacks was heartbroken and still suffers the scars which makes her reluctant to look for something new. But with being surrounded by so many loved up couples, she decides to take the plunge and tentatively step into the world of dating. A world that is often intimating and hard, especially when Nicola finds herself dealing with an emotional teacher and a gentlemen who doesn’t like to part with money. But up for a challenge, Nicola takes the task on and sets about losing some of her control on life, surprising everyone particularly herself. Other characters that were especially fun were Caroline, Nicola’s kooky work colleague and Nicola’s brother Mark, often scenes with these characters were hilarious.

I liked how at the start of each chapter, there would be a short advertisement for dating and each advert would refer back to Nicola’s disastrous dates, I thought this was a clever idea to the already funny story.

A wonderfully lighthearted story that proves that the path to true love never runs smooth, ‘How To Get A (Love) Life’, is a witty and romantic tale that will leave you with a smile on your face and with such a bright and vibrant cover, you know you are guaranteed a laugh. Well done to the Novelicious girls for producing another fabulous book!

Rosie Blake Discusses Her Best, Worst And Dream Dates

Rosie BlakeRosie Blake’s debut novel, ‘How to Get a (Love) Life’ charts Nicola Brown’s progress as she attempts to get a love life before Valentine’s Day. A run-in with a clairvoyant, adventure on the high seas and many disastrous dates ensue. Here, Rosie talks to Handwritten Girl about her best ever (and worst ever!) dates.

One of my best dates had to be with the man who I am now married to. He had planned to take me for dinner and in the middle of the dessert course told me to hurry up as we had to be somewhere. The place we had to be? A stand up night. I was impressed. Then, loads of my friends showed up and we all ended up having this epic, spontaneous night out and I never looked back. Total. Winner.

My worst had to be with an actor I dated. He was in a comic theatre show so we were going to meet after the performance for a late dinner. He was a jealous type and had quite big mood swings. On his way to meet me we spoke on the phone. He asked me where I had spent my evening and then proceeded to get completely worked up over the fact it had been with one of my best male friends. He arrived to the date still dressed as a clown with sad little mascara tears dripping down his face, wearing baggy yellow trousers and one of those hats with the tiny propellers on top. I had to break up with him there and then and he just started crying more.

My dream date would involve some kind of fabulous food, a woodland walk, a spa visit, afternoon tea and some cocktails. Mostly just time to spend chatting and lounging around and enjoying each other’s company. I’m not big into flashy gestures and just want to laugh and feel relaxed.
