Matt Dunn Writing Tip

Matt Dunn Photo“About ten years ago, when I was thinking about giving ‘it’ all up to have a go at writing, I heard that the Daily Telegraph was running a competition to write a ‘mini-saga’, i.e. a story in fifty words. I entered, and to my surprise, my story was ‘highly commended’, which meant I’d come in the top twenty-five from about ten thousand entries, and got published in their book of the top however many. It was about a con-man. And strangely enough, those fifty words gave me the confidence to have a go at a 90,000-word novel.”
