The Bone House By Caroline Mitchell
‘The Bone House’ is the latest book by Caroline Mitchell.
When hundreds of birds fall from the sky into Slayton’s lake in a terrifying freak event, the waters are dredged – revealing a dark, long-held secret. An old pram is pulled from the depths, with the bones of a baby still strapped inside. It’s the moment that new mother, Cora, has been dreading since she moved to Slayton – because someone knows, and is going to make her pay. With the help of forensic anthropologist Sophia Hudson, and the extraordinary young Elliott Carter, Detective Sarah Noble gets to the bottom of a cold case that refuses to stay in the past. Will she survive the secrets of the bone house?
‘The Bone House’ is the first book that I’ve read by Caroline and it’s an intriguing thriller with a paranormal twist.
The story is written through multiple narratives but is mainly seen through the perspective of DC Sarah Noble who’s been put in charge of an investigation when the remains of a baby have been found in the lake. She’s now investigating a cold case that dates back many years that bring hard memories for Cora, a new young mother, who escaped ‘The Bone House’, a horror house from her childhood. Whilst Elliott, a young boy feels that there is a badness in the village and his dreams are haunted of bones and dead babies.
This book is a fascinating psychological thriller that contains witchcraft in it and for that made it extra interesting. The mix of narratives in the story really hooked my attention and with past and present sequences and they really set the scene for the characters and the creepy town. This is a third book in a series and it can be read as a standalone, as the author includes information from previous books so that the reader didn’t feel lost.
Dark, claustrophobic with an underlying sense of dread and gloom, ‘The Bone House’ is a twisty thriller about old ghosts, new ghosts and trying to start new lives.
You can buy ‘The Bone House’ from Amazon and is available to buy from good bookshops.
