Diana and Julian Denver have the world at their feet, with a blissful marriage, a darling son and beautiful homes in London and in the countryside, Diana’s life to the outside world is perfect. But nothing is as it seems. When Julian dies suddenly and tragically, Diana is convinced there is more to it than meets the eye. She calls on the only person she had never wanted to see again – her sister Rachel. A former tabloid reporter, Rachel appears to be living the dream as a diving instructor on a Thai island. The truth is she’s in exile from her family and driven from her career by Fleet Street’s phone hacking scandal. For Rachel, Diana’s request opens old wounds. But she is determined to make amends for the past and embarks on a treacherous journey to uncover the truth – wherever it may lead.
I love Tasmina Perry, I read her first book ‘Daddy’s Girls’ a number of years ago and I was immediately hooked into the dark tale of betrayal, sordid relationships and glamour and I knew that ‘Deep Blue Sea’ would be another gripping story.
The story is seen through the eyes of sisters Diana and Rachel, both living on either sides of the world, once they had a close bond but that was torn apart when Rachel was estranged from the family. The more outgoing of the sisters, Rachel loves being a diving instructor with her best friend Liam, but still has the craving and the drive of her former tabloid reporter career and when a proposition falls into her lap to restart investigative reporting, she eagerly jumps at the chance. Her younger sister Diana, is a more tentative, refined, quieter character, she is quite the sweetheart of the story longing for a perfect family, she discovers after Julian’s death that her husband was living a lie and suddenly everyone around her is a suspect. As the two sisters, come together to help each other in this unfortunate turn of events, scenes with them can occasionally make for explosive reading, as they vent their anger towards each other as Rachel tries to make amends and put the past to rights.
Another wonderfully explosive story from Tasmina, that will have you guessing incorrectly throughout at all the shocking twists and turns. ‘Deep Blue Sea’ is another gripping, intelligent and indulgent story filled with sizzling story lines, suspicion and is impossible to put down.
