There isn’t a woman on Earth who doesn’t have her beauty secrets. But for Dina Kane, beauty is more than just business. It’s power. And it is the secret. She’s dragged herself up from poverty to Park Avenue. She’s rolled with the punches. And she’s learned to win. Now someone is out to destroy her and all she’s built. They’ve underestimated Dina Kane. She’s staying at the top – and she’s happy to wait for the perfect moment to exact her revenge.

After having a little bit of a break from writing, it is great to see Louise Bagshaw returning to our bookshelves under her married name Louise Mensch.

The story of ‘Beauty’ is a glamorous and gritty story of young Dina Kane as a young girl she was neglected of her mother’s love, years later she works hard to be a successful business woman, all whilst repaying the people who took advantage of her when she was at her most lowest. Seen solely through Dina’s perspective’s we join the independent and determined young lady as she strives to succeed and to be seen as more than just a pretty face. But it’s hard for her to succeed, when her past keeps haunting her, in the shape of Edward Johnson, a young man who used Dina at her most vulnerable and is craving revenge on Dina, when she exposes his father as a lying cheat. Angered at Dina’s actions, Edward is determined to ruin Dina’s life, no matter the consequences.

Although the story is primarily seen from Dina’s side. occasionally there are scenes from Edward’s perspective, as we see into the dark and troubled mind of the twisted gentleman.

A gripping story from page 1, I was enthralled by Dina’s determination and drive for success. A woman who was most certainly wise beyond her years and starved off her mother’s love and approval, made Dina seem quite hard at times but the scenes with her older brother Johnny, show Dina at her most loving and caring. I did find the moments with Dina and her mother quite sad as Dina longed for her mother’s approval and acceptance which was always rejected due to her mother’s bitter jealousy.

I loved ‘Beauty’ and thought it was a welcome return to one of the UK’s favourite author’s. With Louise’s signature style of clever storytelling, intriguing characters plus a plethora of fashion and beauty, ‘Revenge’ is an aspirational and alluring story of a young woman’s passion for success.
