Nina Elliot is tired of her life. She’s not sure how it happened but, somewhere along the way, she lost track of where it was all going.

So one fateful day, she makes a brave decision: she’s going to leave it all behind. Taking a job deep in the English countryside, Nina does just that. Ensconced at the Old Mill, she settles into daily life with the Milton family, where she works as a researcher for author Dudley. With endless summer days stretching out ahead of her, Nina couldn’t be happier. But her quiet life is soon interrupted when the handsome Milton boys return home – for they plan to make sure this really is a summer to remember…

If curled up with chilled glass of wine on a warm summers evening was a book then it would be called ‘A Summer To Remember’. A captivating and fresh story about starting over and new love.

Nina Elliott is a wonderful lead character, tired of her life in London, she says goodbye to her controlling boyfriend and unappreciative boss when a chance encounter with her old boss, scatty and sweet Olivia Milton leads Nina back to her childhood home to the family that she babysat for as a teenager. Returning to a happier time when life was less complicated, she takes on the role of personal assistant to the husband of the family, Dudley, a loud and abrupt man who has decided to write a novel and needs a bit of help with the research thus providing Nina with a welcome job as well as helping with dog walking duties with the family’s resident Labadoodle, Ziggy.

Settling into this new job and life and without the stress of others bringing her down, Nina enjoys the familiarities of the family as she steps straight into a life, that feels like she has hardly walked away from. Living in a more relaxed atmosphere with people who genuinely appreciate her, Nina begins to find a new happiness at The Old Mill, her unhappy past now a long distant memory.

Although the story is primarily seen through the perspective of Nina, there are a few chapters from Dominic, the youngest son of the Milton family, who harboured a bit of childhood crush on her and hopes now all grown up, that Nina will no longer see him as a child but the grown up man with a professional career as an artist. But it seems Dominic is not the only Milton brother who has noticed Nina. Loveable older brother Alex, has a bit of an eye for the ladies and competes with Dominic for Nina’s attention. But unknown to both brothers, there is a mysterious and handsome stranger called Justin who Nina has noticed whilst walking excitable Ziggy, who provides her with welcome dog training advice, but just as they get close, Justin has to always fly off on some sudden adventure.

Filled with vibrant characters that made me chuckle, particularly Olivia and Dudley, Nina’s employers at The Old Mill. Olivia is delightfully cheerful and carefree whilst Dudley’s loud voice and quick temper reminded me of Brian Blessed. Scenes with Dudley and Nina made for particularly entertaining reading.

A story packed with charm, wit and unexpected twists and turns, ‘A Summer To Remember’ is the perfect summer story.
