Ellie Andrews Has Second Thoughts by Ruth Saberton

I had just read Ruth Saberton’s first novel “Katy Carter wants a Hero” a few months ago and I was delighted with it. I loved the characters she created, their flare for 70’s fashion with the platformed heels and the wide-legged jeans, and “Ellie Andrews Has Second Thoughts” is filled with similar delightful characters.

Ellie Andrews lives a bright, flamboyant life, the youngest of four sisters, she has been always been slightly different, content with living in a student-style house with her best friend and eco warrior Sam, she doesn’t have the same glamourous notions as them of settling down and having children.

But things change and Ellie finally finds herself a man, that she feels she is ready to spend the rest of her life with and finally fulfil her mother’s wish of settling down. But as the big day looms closer, Ellie begins to have niggling doubts about whether she is actually ready to walk down the aisle.

So to reassure herself, she reflects on her past flames and the potential men she could have married. There was kind, perfect Rupert who everyone loved especially her mother, Jay, her teenage crush who who stood her up on the night of their prom, Marcus, the lothario MP and finally Xander, the sexy, lusted after lead singer of top band Dark Angel.

As time ticks by, Eliie contemplates life and the man who will be waiting for her at the altar and begins to wonder if she has chosen the right man.

I absolutely loved this book, I thought Ellie was a great character, so many times i found myself laughing out loud as she constantly managed to get herself into embarrassing and awkward positions. I adored her free spirit attitude and whatever will be will attitude towards life . As well as creating a wonderful lead character, Ruth has added some fabulous characters such as strongly opinionated Sam and the fabulously ditzy Poppy. As well as the great characters and hilarious scenarios, there is also no shortage of men for us ladies to lust after.

“Ellie Andrews Has Second Thoughts” is a lovely, light-hearted read, that will have you laughing throughout. A definite feel good story.
