Nova Reed can’t forget him — Quinton Carter, the boy with the honey-brown eyes who made her realise she deserved more than an empty life. His pain was so similar to her own. But Nova has been coming to terms with her past and healing, while Quinton is out there somewhere, sinking deeper. She’s determined to find him and help him . . . before it’s too late.

Nova has haunted his dreams for nearly a year, but Quinton never thought a sweet, kind person like her would care enough about someone like him. To Quinton, a dark, dangerous life is exactly what he deserves. And Nova has no place in it. But Nova has followed him, and now he must do whatever it takes to keep her away, to maintain his self-imposed punishment for the unforgivable things he’s done. But there’s one flaw in his plan: Nova isn’t going anywhere.

I’ve been reading books by Jessica for the last couple of years and I’ve always enjoyed them. Like I said in a previous review, I feel that she has a formula and this formula has been carried out in all her books including ‘Saving Quinton’.

Again we have the troubled young adults who are out to wreck their lives and then there is the caring person in the shape of Nova, who wants to save Quinton even though he doesn’t want to be saved. In the previous book. ‘Breaking Nova’ we are introduced to Nova, a young woman who is severely depressed and troubled after finding her boyfriend, Landon hanged. Torn up with guilt, she feels that she could have done more and feels that she let him down. Battling with her own demons, she befriends Quinton, who is equally as troubled after killing his girlfriend and cousin in a car crash, he wishes he died and is determined to ruin his own life by becoming heavily involved in hard drugs.

Like previous books by Jessica, the chapters alternate between the characters so we see the story from both perspective, as Nova is persistent to help Quinton, by giving up her summer break to travel to Las Vegas and rescue him even though he is adamant, that he deserves to suffer and pushes her away.

Nova has become a lot stronger since the first book, since she battled her demons and faced up to things. Now, that her life is beginning to get into order, she wants Quinton to see the error of his ways and what happened was not his fault. She stubbornly refuses to give up on him and her determination makes for sweet reading. My heart went out to Quinton, everytime he took drugs, it was to block away the pain and the sheer desperation in his thoughts and grief made for sad reading.

A lot of Jessica’s feature hard issues such as abuse, depression and drug abuse features heavily in this story and it’s quite graphic in parts, which was quite vivid and unsettling at times.

Strongly written with passionate and strong characters, this book is riddled with attitude, desperation and bleakness, ‘Saving Quinton’ is a gut-wrenchingly sad and intense story and in my own opinion, this book has to be the darkest book, Jessica has written to date. Intense from the very beginning, I look forward to the final instalment to see if Nova and Quinton finally get their happy ever afters.
