Claire Dillon’s mother had everything to live for, a husband, two children and a successful medical practice. But at just thirty-three she was killed in tragic accident. And it was Claire’s fault.
Now, Claire is the same age, a floundering actress with broken heart, she is frittering her life away with the help of her best friend, the gorgeous ex-rock star, Ray Devine. But on her, 33rd birthday, she gives herself one last year to be more like her mother, but you should be careful what you wish for. Her estranged brother is back from America with his glamorous wife, Kelly. But returning to Ireland is bringing back unhappy memories for the television relationship guru and he is already dreaming of a escape. But when a terrible accident occurs, throwing the Dillon family together and the secrets that they kept and new ones start to emerge.
For the last 24 hours I have had my head buried in this book, I loved it and was unable to put it down. Wonderfully written, ‘The Heart Whisperer’ is a refreshing and honest story, about the Dillion family as they try to move on from their mothers death, but it seems that they are all stuck in the past and unable to move on from that tragic day, when a terrible accident occurred.
The story is seen from the perspective of the four main characters, Claire, a struggling actress who lives in the downstairs flat of Ray Devine’s. house. Ray Devine, a has-been successful rock star, who now writes advert jingles and is still trying to write that number one hit, Claire’s brother Nick, has just moved back to Ireland and has reinvented himself as television relationship guru and his wife Kelly, who is determined that this is the year and the perfect time to add a new member to the family. Ella has beautifully written the characters perfectly and they all flow together seamlessly as they deal with the up and downs and betrayals of life
Filled with home truths, laugh out loud moments and the occasional moment when a tear will be shed, ‘The Heart Whisperer’ is a captivating story about a dysfunctional family, coming to terms to facing the past and to finally letting go. An enchanting story from start to finish and a great new Irish female voice to look out for!
