What If I Never Get Over You By Paige Toone

The latest book by Paige Toon called ‘What If I Never Get Over You’ is another emotional rollercoaster set across many years and locations.

Ellie didn’t expect to fall in love while travelling in Europe. But she also didn’t expect to meet a man like Ash. Three blistering days in Lisbon is all it takes to form an unforgettable connection – deep enough for them to plan to meet again in Madrid. But Ellie arrives late, and Ash is nowhere to be found. Six years later, the memory of Ash and their time together still burns deeply in Ellie’s heart. She hopes that her dream job as a gardener on a grand estate in Wales will bring the fresh start she desperately needs. But when Ash unexpectedly crashes back into her life, Ellie is forced to question if the universe has other plans…

Seen through the narrative of Ellie, who sets off on a solo interrailing journey, she meets fellow traveller Ash, and they spend 3 blissful days together and promise to meet up days later. But days become years, and the pair end up meeting again and the old feelings are still there, but once again life gets in the way.

I loved this story and like Ellie and Ash spent 3 days caught up in this glorious tale of love, heartbreak, beautiful blooms and the wonder of space. I loved the characters, Ellie and Ash are perfect for each other as they are both dealing with huge issues in their lives, with finding their place in life, difficult and controlling parents as well as losing friends. I loved their interactions and the sexual chemistry between the pair of them sizzled off the pages. As per Paige’s previous books, it’s beautifully written and descriptive especially when it’s comes to gardening and grand National Trust sites that Ellie works in as well as Ash’s interest in astronomy and as well as stunningly written, it was so well researched and informative.

This book was so easy to get lost in and I found myself absorbed in it as it whisked me away to bustling European cities, rolling gardens and mysterious woods. The interactions between the characters and their family dynamics really made the story interesting as both Ash and Ellie struggled with their parents and living up to their expectations and this was crux that essentially broke them at times and this made for upsetting reading as it was obvious that the pair are made for each other.

A story of love, following dreams and grief, ‘What If I Never Get You’ is another fantastic Paige turner right from the first page, packed with romance and drama, it was the perfect love story to get lost in.
