Without a fairy godmother to wave a magic wand, Ellie Summers needs more than a pumpkin to impress her gorgeous boss. She works hard, not as a scullery maid but as a super sassy saleswoman, but he just doesn’t notice her. Their company’s lavish Christmas party is the opportunity Ellie’s been waiting for to make a big impression. And she doesn’t intend it to be winning the mince pie eating competition.
With the help of fellow dieter Sam, a sleigh load of will power and a sprinkling of Christmas magic, Ellie knows finding her Prince Charming is just a mistletoe kiss away.
But is her prince really so charming? Or is Christmas romance closer than she thinks?
I always worry when reviewing short stories that I will give too much away, caught up in the excitement of seasonal merriment and dashing men that I will reveal too much of the story and suddenly I have given away the whole plot and there is no need for anyone to read it.
In ‘Weight Till Christmas’ our leading lady is voluptuous used car sales representative Ellie, who secretly lusts after charming Drake Owen, a fellow car sales man, desperate to attract his attention at the company’s annual Christmas party, she sets about losing weight and to finally fit into her beautifully expensive dream dress. We all know how hard it is to stick to dieting so her childhood friend and work colleague Sam decides to diet with her and they can support each other along the way.
May I say that I loved Ellie, with her flaming hair and curves, I imagined ‘Mad Men’s’ Christina Hendricks striding around the showroom of Broom! Broom!, hoping to sell a wee Micra to someone, with her kind nature and wonderful sense of humour, I thought she as an adorable lead who I warmed to immediately. Meanwhile, her best friend Sam was a great friend, who gently poked at Ellie about her love of food and was always there to provide a shoulder or a temptation to McDonalds.
Packed with funny situations and characters that you could fall in love with or loath equally, ‘Weight Till Christmas’ is a fabulously festive and fun story that is the perfect story to curl up with and read on a cold winter evening.
