Heiresses by Lulu Taylor
“Heiresses” is the first novel by Lulu Taylor and like her other book “Midnight Girls” it revolves around the lives of three glamourous women, sisters, Tara, Jemima and Poppy Trevellyn.
Tara the eldest of the sisters, is the hard working business woman with two adorable kids but behind closed doors her marriage isn’t quite as perfect as she makes it out to be. Jemina the middle sister lives to party, given up on her own marriage, her lifestyle knows no limits and is always photographed stumbling out of the best parties whilst younger sister Poppy would prefer to live without the trappings of the family enterprise and continue on in her old little bubble painting the day away
The sisters live pampered lives, where there is no shortage of money, fashion and sophisticated parties but when their mother suddenly dies and leaves the girls Trevellyn enterprise, the girls are in for a shock. As it seems that Trevellyn perfume is no-longer a lusted after fragrance, but has now become a dated scent associated with the elderly. The business is in serious trouble and there is no finance available to fix it. The girls are given a year to turn the business around and turn it back into the luxury fragrance that it used to be, or else it will be taken away.
The girls set out to bring the company back to order, but with being associated as spoilt brats, its hard for them to be taken seriously in the world of business. As they struggle to be taken seriously, offers flow in for Trevellyn but however tempted, they reject the offers determined to prove the world wrong. But just as things seem to be falling in place for the three sisters, the past rears its ugly head and has a surprise for them.
“Heiresses” is an addictive, fast paced novel packed with drama, tragedy and designer labels, that I found enjoyable from the beginning, but the only flaw I found in the book was, I thought the ending was quite abrupt. The book left you you wanting to find out more about what happened to the characters afterwards but there was nothing. Maybe that it is a good thing, as it left the book open to a sequel but unfortunately I was left wondering, which I found quite frustrating.
