Anna Browne is an ordinary woman living an ordinary life. Her day job as a receptionist in bustling London isn’t exactly her dream, yet she has everything she wants. But someone thinks Anna Browne deserves more. When a parcel addressed to Anna Browne arrives, she has no idea who has sent it. Inside she finds a beautiful gift – one that is designed to be seen. And so begins a series of incredible deliveries, each one bringing Anna further out of the shadows and encouraging her to become the woman she was destined to be. As Anna grows in confidence, others begin to notice her – and her life starts to change. But who is sending the mysterious gifts, and why?
I started ‘A Parcel For Anna Browne’ the other night and the book has completely gripped me, even when I couldn’t sleep, I found myself propped up against the pillows reading into the small hours.
The story is about Anna Browne, a quiet, wallflower who starts receiving mysterious presents from an unknown sender and with each gift brings a new memory for the young woman plus a burst in her confidence. Working as a receptionist in a newspaper, she finds herself in the spotlight as people want to know all about her gift sender but Anna likes the mystery of the presents and refuses to think that there could be something malicious in the gifts.
The story is primarily seen through the eyes of Anna, an absolute sweetheart of a lead. She’s a quiet and kind girl with a huge heart who looks out for others, caring for elderly neighbours and those less fortunate than herself. Having escaped to London after a turbulent childhood, she prefers to leave her past behind but regularly thinks of the family who were there for her and with each new gift that is delivered, it stirs a new emotion or memory within her. Around her, there is also a great cast of characters who make for entertaining reading as they all try to solve the mystery of Anna’s presents.
As the story progresses, we join Anna on a path of discovery, as she realises things about herself and her life and she blossoms in confidence and comes out of her shell, this is an enlightening journey which makes for inspirational reading.
Written in Miranda’s fresh and witty style and filled with her trademark combination of magic and intrigue, ‘A Parcel For Anna Browne’ is a beautifully charming and sweet story that I found impossible to put down and is a wonderful start to her new relationship with her new publisher, Pan MacMillan, an absolutely captivating read.
