A Winter’s Wedding by Sharon Owens

A Winters Wedding book cover

After being jilted at the alter, Emily develops a cynical view on romance. Content on being alone with all her memories locked away in her wardrobe she carries on with life. To help her editor cope with the sudden collaspe of her marriage, she takes on the role as deputy editor of Stylish Living, an interiors magazine. She also needs the extra finance for her troubled parents back home in Belfast. Her mother, a compulsive shopper with a drink problem and her gambling father.

After deciding to do a clearout for Christmas, she meets Dylan in the local charity shop when she leaves in her old wedding dress and against her will, falls in love. Even though Dylan, is nothing like her ex, he’s sexier, caring and definately someone she enjoys spending time with. But, after already having her heart throd on, can he convince that there is such a thing as happy ever after.

I thought this book was an nice read, elements of it were enjoyable, I found the characters quite interesting, each of them all troubled souls trying to make the best of their lives. Sharon is wonderfully descriptive in setting the scene and makes Christmas in London sound like the most magical season ever. The only turn off for me were the references of Northern Ireland which seemed a bit dated and the dialogue was old-fashioned. Apart from that, A Winter’s Wedding is a lovely read that warms the cockles of your heart on the coldest of winter’s days.
