Burning Bright By Michelle Kwasniewski
‘Burning Bright’ is the latest book by Michelle Kwasniewski is the second book in ‘The Rise and Fall of Dani Truehart’ series.
Fresh off the debut of her EP, sixteen-year-old Dani Truehart is flying high on a string of number one hits. After locking down her first full-length album in record time and furiously preparing for her world tour, Dani is torn between leaving her loved ones behind and embracing her burgeoning stardom.Dani’s fame and fortune explode as her tour moves across the globe. Elated when two of Hollywood’s hottest young actors, Kayla Spencer and Trey Connors, befriend her, Dani finds herself living life in the fast lane and recording her second album as she tours. Constantly dogged by the paparazzi, Dani basks in the adoration of The TrueHart Nation, her loyal super-fans who are ready to follow her around the world and go to war with anyone who dares dis their favorite pop star, whom they’ve dubbed “The Queen of Harts.”With her ego growing as fast has her fame and fortune, a string of platinum hits and her jealous mother desperate for a piece of her wealth, sixteen-year-old pop sensation Dani Truehart navigates the glamour and perils of stardom as scandal threatens to ruin her and everyone who helped make her a star.
The second book in this series is a rollercoaster of emotions and situations that made for intense reading.
Dani is now a worldwide singing sensations with a legion of fans called the Trueharts, but as Dani’s fan base gets bigger so does her ego. As she finds herself mixing with older people, she’s being led astray and getting exposed to alcohol and parties whilst her team are having to clean up after her.
I really enjoyed this book, but my opinion of Dani has really changed. In the first book, she’s wholesome, kind but with her team and fans constantly stroking her ego, she’s become quite self obsessed and only concentrates on herself and this regularly causes conflict between her best friend and her boyfriend Sean, who’s quite a sweetheart. Dani’s turbulent relationship with her mother is a sad point in the story, as her mother uses her success to profit her surgeries and new appearance.
As the story progressed, I found myself disliking Dani more and more, with her treatment of people and lack of respect. And then on the hand other, I also felt sorry for her and the immense pressure she was under at a young age.
Although this book is the second one in a series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone.
‘Burning Bright’ is a fast paced story that gives a fascinating insight into a pop stars world, from the touring and recording aspect and shows how quickly a person’s life can spiral when in the public eye.
