With a name like Coco, people expect to you to be exotic and glamorous as the famous designer, not an ordinary-looking-small-town antiques dealer who could win an award for living cautiously. But when a vintage Chanel handbag turns up in a box of worthless bric-a-brac, Coco’s quiet world is suddenly turned upside down. Where did it come? And is it just a coincidence that it’s the same by Coco’s late mother always wanted her to have. When Coco discovers a mysterious, decades old letter hidden in the bag’s lining, she sets off on a quest to piece together the story behind it, stumbling across secrets that span three generations as she goes. Could the beautiful Chanel bag be about to teach Coco more than she wants to learn? Or will it show her just where her heart can take her if she lets it lead the way?

I adored this book, I thought it was a magically, enchanting story that had me smiling throughout. I found this quite the refreshing story that wasn’t simply about a girl meeting a boy, it was about a girl meeting a handbag and for me this made ‘Coco’s Secret’ a unique story that held a lot of promise.

The story is cleverly written and seen solely through the eyes of the main character, Coco. Packed with delicious characters, that you can easily relate to, Coco, who is the complete opposite to her namesake, far more comfortable in jeans and boots and sanding down old furniture, she shy’s away from glamour and the feminine touch much to the frustration of her bubbly and wonderful hippy grandmother Ruth and her best friend outspoken Cat. Coco, is one of the most loveliest of lead characters, that I have had the joy of reading in recent times, terribly sweet with a kind heart and lost in the world, she misses her mother and with finding the hidden letter thinks that this could be a sign from her mother, thus making for sweet reading, as she goes on adventures trying to fulfil a strange woman’s wish.

Poignantly written with a dash of humour and mystery, intriguing characters, a picturesque village and most importantly, the most beautiful bag of all time! ‘Coco’s Secret’ is quite simply an enchanting tale that made for compelling reading, that I couldn’t put down and with a beautiful cover of watercolour painting of a girl holding a Chanel bag, this book is definitely one of this seasons must haves!
