Cupcakes at Carrington’s by Alexandra Brown
[amazon_link id=”0007488238″ target=”_blank” ][/amazon_link]”Cupcakes at Carrington’s” is the first book by Alexandra Brown and may I say it is a delicious start to her writing career
Georgie Hart loves her job, running the luxury handbag concession at Carrington’s Department store in the pretty seaside town of Mulberry-on-Sea and treating herself to a red velvet cupcake whilst gossiping with her best friend Sam in the Carrington’s café. But Georgie’s life is suddenly thrown into chaos when Carrington’s is suddenly plunged into a recession busting make-over, cueing the arrival of femme fatale Maxine who wields her axe in her perfectly manicured hands.
Suddenly Georgie finds herself battling for her job, fighting against her gorgeous boss, James and hot newcomer Tom. As both Georgie’s professional and personal life unravel, she must figure out where her loyalties lie.
Georgie Hart our heroine is the friend we all want sweet, funny and kind but deep down she has the worries of debts to deal with as she struggles to get by in the current economic climate. Sam, her best friend runs the café in the department store, where Georgie is regularly found indulging in her favourite Red Velvet Cupcake. The scenes with Sam and her cupcakes made for indulgent reading as the vivid descriptions and recipes of the cupcakes always made me hungry! Whilst Eddie, her other friend is a gay man with a wicked tongue and devilish side. The scenes with Eddie made for entertaining reading which left me smirking and sniggering to myself.
Set in the busy department store, the story gives an inside to the glamour and the stress of retail and makes for interesting reading when Maxine comes in, to help save the retail institute and just how far everyone will go to make sure that their jobs are secure.
I absolutely adored “Cupcakes at Carrington’s”, it was such a fun and sweet story that the book has literally been stuck to my hands for the last couple of days. Alexandra has a lovely gentle and funny style to her writing, that made the story flow along at a lovely pace. Filled with delicious characters both male and female, so many designers bags that I was in heaven and of course the delicious cupcakes, this book made for perfect winter reading. A wonderfully sweet and charming debut from start to finish, I eagerly await Alexandra’s next writing instalment. “Cupcakes at Carrington’s “is the first book by Alexandra Brown and may I say it is a delicious start to her writing career
