First comes marriage. Then comes divorce. Then it’s every woman for herself …
When Charlie’s husband Matt tells her that he wants a divorce she has to start from scratch. Suddenly single, broke and approaching 40 she is forced to return to her childhood home in the Yorkshire moors. Living with her father and eccentric siblings could be considered a challenge but soon Charlie finds her new life somewhat refreshing. Now that she’s single she’s got no need to dye her roots nor to be the perfect wife and she can return to her first love- painting.
But just as she begins to feel settled, handsome, bad-tempered actor Mace North moves in down the road and starts mixing things up for Charlie in more ways than one …
I have to admit that ‘Every Woman For Herself’ is the most bonkers and fun book that I have had the joy of reading in recent times, filled with eccentric characters and bizarre scenarios, this book was a riot from the very start.
The story is seen from the perspective of Charlie on the day that her husband announces that he wants a divorce. Agreeing to the conditions, she returns to her childhood home to her madcap father, siblings and housekeepers who like to either cast love spells or repeatedly tell people that they don’t have a hair on their body.
As Charlie begins to settle into her new and unexpected life, she tries to concentrate on her painting. But, she finds an unwelcome distraction in the shape of handsome actor Mace North, a broody and duvet wearing man, who dislikes the attention that he gets from the yummy mummy’s of the village and finds a breath of fresh air in the shape of odd and artistic Charlie, who begins to look after Mace’s outspoken daughter, Caitlin.
As the Charlie and Mace begin to become closer and form a relationship, Charlie discovers that there is still life in the old dog yet and enjoys the new lust for love.
Wittily written, this book is filled with spirit and vigour and regularly made me snort with laughter at the most inappropriate moments. A completely unexpected story filled with twists and turns and spells and love, ‘Every Woman For Herself’ is a deliciously bonkers and relatable story, that is guaranteed to have you laughing in the aisles!
