Final Cut By SJ Watson

Final Cut ‘Final Cut’ is the latest book by SJ Watson.

They tried to hide the truth. But the camera never lies. Blackwood Bay. An ordinary place, home to ordinary people. It used to be a buzzing seaside destination. But now, ravaged by the effects of dwindling tourism and economic downturn, it’s a ghost town—and the perfect place for film-maker Alex to shoot her new documentary. But the community is deeply suspicious of her intentions. After all, nothing exciting ever happens in Blackwood Bay—or does it?

SJ Watson is back with another cracking story filled with suspense and intrigue that I wasn’t able to put down all day.

In this story, we meet a woman called Alex who’s been sent to a small seaside town called Blackwood Bay to start working and researching on an upcoming film. It’s in this small town that she develops an interest an in the case of the missing girls and the links connected. The story is written in the past and present tense and is seen from a narrative from a young girl, who’s lost her memory and as the story progresses we see her memory slowly return.

It’s hard to say too much about this story without giving too much away.

The start of the story really sets the pace for the drama and suspense that is weaved throughout the story. I really like Watson’s writing, from the bleak and dismal descriptions of the despairing town to vivid imagery that Alex catches on camera. The characters are a complex mix of personalities that all make for suspicious people and cleverly with these unreliable characters, this really keeps the readers on their toes.

I found Alex to be an interesting character with a troubled background and her obsession into the missing girls made for fascinating and compelling reading, as she begins to reveal something dark and sinister that is lurking in the town.

I absolutely loved SJ Watson’s debut novel, ‘Before I Go To Sleep’, it was a gripping story and ‘Final Cut’ is just as intense. Cleverly written infused with drama and mystery, this book is a claustrophobic and thrilling, touching on topics such child abuse, this book makes for hard reading at times.

Intense and hard hitting from the very first page, ‘Final Cut’ is an expertly crafted book, riddled with twists and unreliable narrators is the perfect psychological thriller.

You can buy ‘Final Cut’ from Amazon and is available to buy from good bookshops.
