Fire After Dark

“Fire After Dark” is by Sadie Matthews, who is the author of six contemporary novels of women’s fiction under other names,

When Beth Villiers’ heart is broken by the only man she has ever loved, she jumps at the chance to escape and housesit a luxurious Mayfair apartment. There, Beth catches sight of a man in the apartment opposite hers, and is immediately captivated. When night-time falls and the inside of his apartment is illuminated, Beth sees in the shadows things she never knew imagined.

Once her and Dominic meet there is obviously a mutual attraction and they begin a relationship that takes Beth down an exciting path

With the hype of “Fifty of Shades Grey”, it seems that everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and writing about BDSM. So when, I received a copy of “Fire After Dark” with a sticker on the front asking the question “Did Fifty Shades of Grey leave you wanting more?”, I was a bit dubious.

Like everyone other woman in the world I have read the Fifty Shades trilogy, but unlike every other woman in the world, I didn’t fall in love with them. For the simple reason that the writing was repetitive and I didn’t like the characters.

So I was a tad weary when I opened the first page of the book and prepared myself to be plunged into the dark world of dominators and submissives, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it seemed more of a love story and had a bit of dept to it.

When we first meet Beth, she is an unsure young woman, escaping to London to help her overcome her heartbreak. But then she begins to grow up whilst exploring the city, she seems to blossom and finds a new eagerness to discover the world laid out before her.

I found Dominic to be a lovely character. Having loathed Christian Grey, I thought he was a much nicer dominator who didn’t seem to want to control or manipulate Beth, He was charming, sweet and very handsome, so why wouldn’t she want to enter the dark world of BDSM to be with him!

I have to say that I really enjoyed “Fire After Dark”, Sadie has a lovely, easy style of writing that makes the story flow so easily as it process along the ups and downs of the couples new relationship, that you really feel part of their world.

Without the hint of repetition and wonderfully left open for a sequel “Fire After Dark” is a intense and passionate book, that is perfect for those who tentatively want dip their toes into the exciting world of BDSM.
