“I Wished For You” is the second book by Irish author and actress, Amy Huberman.

Grace is at the age where people are expecting her to marry her long term boyfriend, Robbie. Everyone thinks that they are the perfect fit and after buying a house together, naturally marriage seems like the next thing on the cards.

But when Robbie unexpectedly gets down on bended knee. Grace freaks out. Cue the mother of all breakdowns.

On top of that, Grace’s passion for fashion isn’t exactly fulfilled by her job, dressing well-to-do ladies with way more money than style, so in her distressed state, not only does she end up single but also unemployed.

Into Grace’s train wreck of a life comes Verity, ex Holywood stylist of the stars and owner of vintage clothes shop ‘Best Wishes’. Verity is not called the Vintage Vixen for nothing, she has done it all and has lived a life that Grace would long for. Verity tells Grace that the secret to happiness is to discover her ‘heart wish’. But all Grace has do, is figure out what her heart wish is.

Although I enjoyed “I Wished For You”, I initially found it hard to get into and that it was a bit slow getting to the main element of the story.

I thought the characters were all intriguing, all very mysterious and quirky especially Grace, the leading character of the story. I found her sweetness and love of all things vintage very endearing. I truly loved the idea behind ‘Best Wishes’ and thought Verity was a delight to read. Her stories of the silver screen and glamour made for enchanting reading and as a fan of vintage fashion, I loved the detailed descriptions and imagery that were thoughtfully written, that made the reader feel that they were an extra in one of the glamorous films that Grace used as a form of escapism.

“I Wished For You” is a beautifully sweet and whimsical story that gently flows along. Filled with Dublin humour, charismatic ladies and a girl wishing for the one, this bubbly book will have you smiling and laughing throughout.
