I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella
“I’ve Got Your Number” is the latest novel from international best-seller Sophie Kinsella and true to form, “I’ve Got Your Number” is another funny, addictive page turner.
Poppy Wyatt has a great life, engaged to handsome Magnus and happy in her physiotherapy job, everything is rosy until the day she loses her engagement ring at a charity do with the girls. A family heirloom, passed down by Magus’s mother. In the panic of losing the ring, she then loses her phone. Frantic that all her valuables are suddenly disappearing, she races around the foyer of the hotel and discovers a phone abandoned in the bin. What luck! Going by the motto “Finders keepers” she seizes the phone and thinking luck is on her side, she leaves the new number with the hotel staff, now they have a number to contact her on, when they find her ring.
Unfortunately Sam Roxton, businessman and owner of the phone doesn’t agree with Poppy’s way of thinking and wants his phone returned. So Poppy offers to forward all his emails and messages as long as she can hold onto his phone. Although he isn’t happy with the arrangement, Sam begrudgingly agrees. So chaos and drama ensues as Poppy tries to organise the wedding of the year, keep track of Sam’s phone messages and hide her left hand from Magnus.
As per usual Sophie has delivered yet another wonderful read, packed with glamourous ladies and handsome men, it was a book that I could rarely put down. Poppy was a entertaining lead as she tried to achieve the perfect wedding and be the perfect daughter in law for her new academic in-laws, she was hilarious as she eaves-dropped in the personal and professional life of Sam, who regularly becomes frustrated with her interference.
The only flaw that I had was the footnotes that were throughout the book, although they were initially amusing little anecdotes in the beginning, Eventually, I found them distracting from the main story.
Apart from that, I thought “I’ve Got Your Number” was another successful book from one of the Britain’s bestselling authors. A charming and refreshing read, there’s never a dull moment as we join Poppy Wyatt on her roller-coaster of adventure as she tries to recover her engagement ring and keep a stranger up-to-date with his busy schedule.
