Katy Carter wants a Hero by Ruth Saberton
Ruth Saberton, the writer of Katy Carter wants a Hero is a new author to me, who writes a wonderfully witty read with a snappy title.
Katy Carter is a sucker for romance and all she wants is to become a successful romantic writer, by day she teaches English and doddles romantic tales in Wayne Lobbs notebook during staff meetings and by night she continues the dream with her fiancee James, who she thinks is her own hero.
But when she is left in charge of dinner party, that James’s promotion is reliant on, she asks for the help of her colleague Ollie, who happens to be more domesticated than her, as he plans the perfect meal, things go distractedly wrong with the addition of Ollie’s hyper dog Sasha, a oddly shaped cactus and an abandoned lobster, that they don’t have the heart to kill.
Fast forward to the end of the night and suddenly Katy is a single girl with no-where to live and a new pet lobster called Pinchy. Determined to change her ways and realising that she is cramping Ollie’s style, she retires to Cornwall determined to sort her life and to finally finish the novel that she had always dreamt of writing.
But things aren’t that easy for Katy as she takes on this journey, suddenly she sees herself now living a celebrity lifestyle, sellingĂ‚Â sex toys with her best friend, the vicar’s wife and finally finding her hero.
This book is such a great story with so many wonderful characters that amused me right from the start. My favourite character has got to be Frankie, the gay cousin of Ollie’s who is wonderfully bitchy and provided many funny lines throughout the book. A lovely feel good read.
