Little Sister by Lucy Dawson
“Little Sister” is the fourth novel by Lucy Dawson.
In the middle of the night, Kate receives a phone call. Police in Mexico have recovered her sister Anya’s clothes and personal belongings by the poolside of a remote hideaway. A place, Kate had no idea Anya would be. It was reported that Anya was seen getting into a vehicle with a local diving instructor, but it seems that he is missing also.
Kate and Anya’s relationship has been difficult over the years, ever since a family tragedy blew their family apart. But still, Kate cannot believe that Anya would travel to somewhere so isolated, so willingly with a man she barely knows. In a race against time, Kate must fight to find her little sister before time runs out.
“Little Sister” has got to be one of the most uncomfortable books, I have had the joy of reading this year. When I say uncomfortable, I mean the writing was so vivid and descriptive that I found it almost claustrophobic. With two strong leading women, it was interesting to see how their lives had developed over the years, the love, the regret and the remorse as they reflected over the tragedy that had impacted their lives so much. As the story was primarily based in two locations, one being Kate’s living room and the other location being a deep, dark cave, I found myself regularly having to come up for air when the story got too intense. Although the story was claustrophobic, it also made for sad and dark reading that made the book hard to put down. “Little Sister” is without doubt, an interesting and suspenseful read that gives the chick lit genre a welcome and dark twist that will leave the reader gasping for air.
