Married by Christmas by Scarlett Bailey

Married by Christmas

It’s been Anna’s dream since she was a child that she would be married at Christmas, and just as her dream is about to come through, her fiancé, Tom drops a bombshell. He’s already married to a girl he fell for on a drunken night in Las Vegas. Distraught that her Christmas wedding might not happen, Anna finds herself of on a New York adventure determined to find the woman that Tom is married and preventing her dream wedding from happening.

What can I say about “Married by Christmas” that hasn’t already been said. It is such an indulgent and sexy read that the book was impossible to put down. I loved this book right from the offset, I loved Anna, I thought she was one of the best leading ladies that I have had the joy of reading in a while. Even though she was a damaged and vunerable woman after her mother abandoned her as a child, I loved her attitude and her love of lists. Just like her, I live by the list system, so it was a such a delight to read about such a like-minded female! Her best friend Liv, is a sweetheart, who always puts others before herself, all the while try to disguise her love for Tom.

Written mainly through the eyes of Anna, the narrative occasionally flicks between Anna in New York and Liv back home in England, which makes for interesting reading as the women are both so different and both are fighting their own personal battles. Even though the story is written as a romantic tale, I think Scarlett has a sexy yet gentle style of writing that made the story flow easily along. Her descriptions of the city were so vivid at times, that I occasionally found myself imagining I was walking along with Anna and Miles with the snow falling around them in the bustling city. I also developed a bit of a crush on Miles. I always had a thing for musicians, especially when Scarlett declared that he had “man arms”, how could you not fall for that! Even though he was a wannabe rock star, he was also a chivalrous gentleman looking out for Anna.

“Married by Christmas” is a wonderful story with a wonderful twist that I never seen coming! This book is a festive delight that will have you laughing and chuckling throughout as we join Anna on her adventure as she tries to live her life by the list system but discovers that things don’t always go according to plan.

Scarlett Bailey is a new author for me and definitely one I shall be looking out for in the future.
