Amber runs the pet parlour, but her love of dogs extends to rescuing abandoned pooches and now her tiny cottage is overflowing with homeless hounds. The only answer is to open a proper rescue centre but where will the money come from? Kitty knows she could never take on Monty – it would be too painful, but with more than one dog needing a home this Christmas, is a miracle too much to hope for?

‘Not Just For Christmas’ sees the return of our favourite fictional village, Tindledale and Alex treats us to a sweet and festive story that will tug at the heartstrings of the coldest of hearts.

In this short tale, we meet single mother Kitty, who hasn’t quite got over the tragic death of her husband Ed who was killed by a landmine. Now four years after his death and with only her daughter Teddie for company, she misses Ed dearly and finds it hard to even think about him. But when Mack, Ed’s best friend in the army returns into her life, asking her to home Monty, the dog that Ed trained whilst in the army, she begins to see a brighter side to life, as the dog introduces her feelings and friends into her life. Meanwhile pet lover, Taylor can’t say no to any stray four legged friends and employs the help of Monty to help raise funds for a pet shelter in the village.

With being just 80 pages long, this story is the perfect story to curl up with, the characters are sweet and entertaining and it’s a nice return to a village that I’ve come to love. As a dog lover, I loved Monty and the found the history and background of training working dogs to be quite fascinating. Kitty and Mack are two lovely leads as they tentatively get to know each other, knowing that the main thing they have in common is Ed and it’s sweet the stories that they share about him.

A short but incredibly sweet story that embodies everything about Christmas, love, festive cheer and goodwill to all men and animals, ‘Not Just For Christmas’ is an emotional tale that will leave you all warm and fuzzy inside.
