One Hundred Names by Cecelia Ahern
“One Hundred Names” is the ninth book by bestselling Irish author, Cecelia Ahern.
Journalist Kitty Logan’s career is on the brink of ruin. A reporter on the TV news show “Thirty Minutes” she has been suspended by the network and is facing charges of libel, following an ill-researched story. To make matters worse, she has to come to terms with losing her best friend and mentor Constance. At her terminally ill bedside, Constance asks her one question – what is the one story, you always wanted to write?
The answer lies hidden in a folder in Constance’s office, containing one hundred names and no other details. The list of names is simply a mystery, but before Kitty can find out what they mean, it’s too late.
With everything to prove, Kitty is assigned to the most important story of her life: to write the story, Constance never got the chance to write. Aided with the list of the names, she must track down the people and find out what their connections to one another are and whilst discovering other people’s stories, she discovers that she has one of her own,
I have read a few of Cecelia’s Aherns books and have enjoyed their gentle, whimsical tales. The last book I read by her was “The Gift” which reduced me to a blubbering mess on the bus one day. So when “One Hundred Names” arrived for me to review, I was slightly wary and made sure that I read it in private, incase the ending made me have another public breakdown!
“One Hundred Names” is a beautifully written and soft story that had me captivated from the first word. I immediately developed a soft spot for Constance, Kitty’s french boss who was sophisticated, wise and had a lot of faith in her young predecessor leaving her a mysterious and peculiar project to work on, helping her get her creative juices flowing once again. Kitty herself, is an interesting character as she struggles to show her self worth and regain respect after an error in judgement resulting in one of the prime stories going horribly wrong.
Immediately from the very start of the book, it’s obvious that there is a problem with Kitty’s life as she is subjected to harassment and with a few flashbacks, we find out where the problem occurs.
In true Cecelia Ahern style, “One Hundred Names” is an engaging and wonderfully written story with an incredibly unique plot that draws the reader into the compassionate world of the author’s writing. Filled with vibrant and fascinating characters, the book showed that everyone has a story to tell. “One Hundred Names” is an enchanting story and with a beautifully designed cover presented like a gift, this book is most definitely a literary treat.
