Sisters‘Sisters’ is the latest book by Judith Barrow.

An accident and a terrible lie tear a family apart. When sixteen year old Angie blames her younger sister for their brother’s death, she changes their lives forever. Lisa is sent away, Angie spirals into self destruction and they don’t speak for thirteen years. Returning in 1983 for their mother’s funeral, Lisa quickly realises her sister is trapped in a dangerous marriage. What does Lisa owe to the family that betrayed her? And if she tries to help, will she make things more dangerous for them all?

Dark and compelling from the first page, ‘Sisters’ is a dual narrative story seen through the eyes of sisters Mandy and Angie.
A terrible family tragedy pulls a family apart and Mandy and Angie end up having a troubled relationship, they no longer speak and Mandy is heartbroken at Angie’s behaviour and lies.

Written over multiple years, the story delves into hard hitting issues such as death, grief, domestic and psychological abuse, so it makes for unsettling reading in parts.

The sisters are interesting, they’re complex and troubled in their own ways. I really sympathised with Mandy about how her life had turned out and admired her for being the bigger person and helping Angie. I found it hard to like Angie, she’s selfish and even through she was going through some terrible hardships, she choose her path and had left Mandy to deal with the consequences.

A story about sadness of loss, reconciliation and new beginnings, ‘Sisters’ is a thought provoking story that made for interesting reading.
