That’s Just Perfect By Nicola Gill
‘That’s Just Perfect’ is the latest book by Nicola Gill.
Twenty-nine-year-old teacher Emily needs her father to believe her life is a success. He may have walked out on the family when she was a child and let her down when she needed him most, but her life is perfect despite him. Or it was until last Friday, when her fiancé dumped her. Now she’s facing a frighteningly empty future, and she’s unravelling at work. And just when she thought things couldn’t get worse, her father turns up on her doorstep.
Ed knows he’s got it wrong, and he wants to make amends, even if his motives aren’t entirely selfless. What better way to do that than to show Emily how much he cares about her wedding? He’ll even shell out for the dress if that’s what it takes. Emily can’t bear to tell her father that her life has fallen apart. So she doesn’t. Before she knows it, they’re planning – and booking – a wedding that’s
totally perfect. Except for one small fact…
I’ve spent the last couple of days with my head in this book, a warm story about love, heartache and reconncilation.
The story is seen from the perspective of father Ed, daughter Emily and grandmother Liz, who are all hiding something from each other.
Ed’s relationship with Emily has been far from perfect, particularly after he left her mother and moved to the States and has been absent Emily’s life but needs must and when things become tough for Ed, he returns to the UK to help Emily organise the wedding of her dreams. Unknown to him the wedding is off and Emily is having to pretend that everything’s perfect and she’s not nursing broken heart.
Whilst the pair of them deal with their own issuses of financial problems and heartache, we join the two of them as they tentatively get to know each other and remember times as well as Ed’s mother Liz who has put herself into a care home to deal with a broken shoulder and her own secret love life.
This story is a delight from the first page, the characters are an interesting bunch that you feel an instant connection and empathy for as they reconnect and try to do the right thing. Ed is a complex character who’s a flighty man but underneath it all, it’s obvious that he’s trying to make up for lost time.
Wonderfully written and packed with charm,’ That’s Just Perfect’ is a heartwarming story about coming together, a moody cat called Pebbles and people just trying to do the right thing.
You can buy ‘That’s Just Perfect’ from Amazon and is available to buy from good bookshops.
