The Daughter In Law By Fanny Blake
‘The Daughter In Law’ is the latest book by Fanny Blake.
When Hope’s only son Paul met and married Edie, Hope was delighted that he had found love and was settling down to make his own family. Hope has loved bringing up her own child, and is happy to step in and help out now and again – but is always worried about overstepping the line between grandmother and mother. Edie was hoping that having children with Paul would fulfil her as much as her busy job as a barrister has. But the reality is far from her dream. And with her mother-in-law Hope constantly poking her nose in where it’s not wanted, she finds herself frustrated and alone. Both women could be each other’s greatest ally, but both have secrets that could ruin their relationship. Secrets neither wants Paul to uncover.
It’s been a while since I’ve read a book by Fanny and it was absolutely glorious to delve into a tale of complicated female relationships.
The story is seen through the narrative of mother and daughter in law Hope and Edie. Both would love to have a loving relationship but they constantly find themselves clashing but both women are hiding secrets and if they were found out, their worlds would blow apart.
I really enjoyed this book, it delves into the dynamics of female relationships and explores the complexities of strong, female leads. I loved Hope, she’s a kind heart who has her grandchildren’s best interests at heart but Edie finds herself constantly in the wrong. I didn’t like Edie, she comes across as good living, Mother Earth character but she’s actually quite selfish and hypocritical.
A story of secrets and new beginnings, ‘The Daughter In Law’, was an immensely enjoyable story packed with relatable characters that made for compelling reading.
You can buy ‘The Daughter In Law’ from Amazon and is available to buy from good bookshops.
