The story then flows as Peter is investigating the case trying to find the lead suspect Jesper Orr, a CEO of a major clothes company who has just gone missing.
As Peter investigates the cases, the help of a woman by the name of Hanne is called in, a behaviouralist who he worked with before on a previous case.
The story of seen through the eyes of three main characters, Emma, Peter and Hanne. Emma is an interesting character, the chapters with her are written over a period of time meanwhile Peter and Hanne are always in the present tense. Emma’s life seems complicated, with an unhappy childhood, she finds solace in a love affair with Jasper Orr, a man who has promised her the world but suddenly he disappears on their engagement party and Emma begins to wonder what happened with her life, unhappy in her job and with no money, she only has her cat for company.
The inclusion of the perspectives of Peter and Hanne makes for interesting reading as both of them have their own private battles to deal with as they both try to find the killer and finally find out the identity of the dead woman.
The story flows at a fast pace, that makes for gripping reading. Set against the bleak backdrop of winter in Sweden, this gives the book an element of despair to the dark tale. A gripping page turner that keeps the reader engaged, ‘The Ice Beneath Her’ is a dark and twisted story that makes for unexpected reading, perfect for fans of Jo Nesbo.
