The Murderess By Ivan Jensen
‘The Murderess’ is by Ivan Jensen.
30% of murders in the US go unsolved. Becca Garner hopes her lover’s is one of them. Because she found him. He bequeathed her a million dollars. She’s married. And so is he.
When I initially started this book, I found it hard to get into. I think it was because I found the character quite hard and unlikable but as the story progressed, I began her reasoning into the person that she had become.
The story is seen solely through the narrative of Becca, a bored housewife of two teenage girls who craves some excitement in life. This excitement comes in the form of sexual encounters with strange men and an older lover who is brutally murdered when Becca is with him.
She’s the last person that was with him and finds herself the subject of unwanted attention as well as one million dollars left to her in a will.
Like I said, initially found Becca to be quite a loathsome character, she’s self absorbed and is always looking for the next hook up, whilst promising to be with her husband forever. He’s a weak character who comes across as quite needy and irritable, oblivious to Becca’s encounters.
But as the story progresses and Becca finds herself having to save her own family and life from the repercussions of her behaviour, she becomes a bit of a more likeable character.
The story flows at a fast pace and at only 196 pages can easily be consumed in one sitting. Becca is quite witty in parts and I did find it quite entertaining at times. An erotic and dangerous story about femme fatale, ‘The Murderess’ is an adventurous story filled with sex, murder and power and certainly packs a punch!
