Rebecca is the only girl she knows who didn’t cry at the end of Titanic. Ben is the only man he knows who did. Rebecca’s untidy but Ben doesn’t mind picking up her pieces. Ben is laid back by Rebecca keeps him on his toes. They’re a perfect match. Nothing can come between them. Or so they think. When a throwaway comment reveals a secret from the past, their love story is rewritten. Can they recover from the night that changed everything? And how do you forgive when you can’t forget?

‘The Night That Changed Everything’ sees the return of writing duo and friends, Laura Tait and Jimmy Rice and after the success of their debut novel, ‘The Best Thing That Never Happened To Me’ I was eager to read their latest book.

The story is seen through the eyes of Rebecca and Ben, a couple who had given up on love and met each other when their mutual friend Jamie opened a bar. They fall in love and embark on a tender relationship, meeting parents and discovering new things about each other, their relationship is perfect, until one night a secret is revealed and everything falls apart and two of them struggle to move on.

Each chapter is seen through the narrative of Rebecca and Ben, flowing in sync, as the story progresses and their relationship and feelings develop. Both characters are wonderful, Rebecca is a strong and independent woman with a dark witty sense of humour whereas Ben is the more sensitive of the pair, still trying to find his path in life, whilst Rebecca is content in her job as an architect.

Like many others over Twitter, I also fell in love with this story, I laughed and cried and at one point I really did think that my heart had broke. The story is far from predictable and flows at a romantic and witty pace, that really keeps the reader engaged and this the story being seen from both perspectives, it gives a refreshing insight into the way mind thinks, when it comes to relationships. I did find, at some moments of the story, I was taking different sides, as I understood both perspectives.

A delightfully, refreshing tale from the very beginning, ‘The Night That Changed Everything’ is a poignant and energetic story, that will have you racing from mixed emotions, as you battle the tears and clutch your sides with laughter, this romantic story is riddled with drama, the complexities of relationships and cleverly written with humour, was impossible to put down.
