The One Before the One by Katy Regan
The One Before the One is about Caroline Steele who breaks up with her fiancé on her birthday. Wrecked with guilt that she has broken her teenage sweetheart’s heart, she plunges into denial with the aid of the white wine and a torrid affair with married work colleague Toby Delaney.
As if her life can’t get any more complicated, her half sister Lexi turns up at her door, running away from her troubles and hoping that her older, wiser sister can help with her problems in life, unaware that her sister called off her own wedding and is having secret “Book Club” meetings with Toby.
How can Caroline help with relationships when her own is in tatters around her. This book was a funny read, although certain elements of the story of is serious with Caroline having an affair with a married man but you can’t help but feel sorry for her and innocence that Toby will someday leave his wife for her.
I found the book seemed to get funnier, the more Caroline ventures into her journey to find the one, encountering comical situations that are usually provoked by her rebellious and outspoken sister. A lovely light hearted read.
