The Philosophy Of Love by Rebecca Ryan
‘The Philosophy Of Love’ is the latest book by Rebecca Ryan.
What is love? Is it something spiritual or wholly physical? Can our feelings be explained and quantified? Or are we all actually two halves of a whole? Ask Alice and Luke and you’d receive vastly different answers. Despite her world having been recently dismantled by a messy break-up, Alice would tell you that love is the most important – albeit ineffable – human experiences. But when she once again crosses paths with her old school nemesis, Luke, he challenges this. Luke is a scientist and he’s certain love can be measured and explained – just like everything else. So the two decide to make a bet: they’ll each venture back into dating and if one of them falls in love, Alice wins, if not, then Luke does.
Rebecca’s second book is another warmhearted story about love and second chances. High school frenemies Luke and Alice have different theories on love, so much so that they have a bet on it. Alice is adjusting to a new life having returned to her childhood home after a messy breakup, but she’s find solace in her new friendship with the outspoken Joanne and her new job at the Chinese called ‘The Lotus’.
In her unique style of writing, Rebecca injects humour and love into her writing with the serious issue of relationship abuse as there’s underlying tension in the story as Alice has flashbacks and panic attacks to her past relationship. And this has moulded her into the person that she has become, lack of confidence in herself and lost herself as well. It’s through reflecting on the past with Luke, (who’s rather broody and handsome by the way) and her new friends, that we see Alice prosper and this does make for genuinely lovely reading. It’s also heartfelt her commitment to the help keep the local Welcome Centre open as it offers a refuge for the elderly as well as a Women’s Aid facility, which has helped women like her.
Packed with hope, love and new beginnings, ‘The Philosophy Of Love’ is a lovely story that had me smiling throughout and with a beautifully vibrant cover, it’s hard to miss – so pick up a copy today!
