Laurie loves a challenge. Especially if it involves tea-time and travel. So when British baking treasure Pamela Lambert-Leigh needs a guide on a research trip for her new cookbook, she jumps at the chance.
The brief: Laurie and Pamela – along with Pamela’s sassy mother and stroppy daughter – will board a vintage London bus for a deliciously unusual tour of the USA’s East Coast, cruising from New York to Vermont.
Their mission: To trade recipes for home-grown classics like Victoria Sponge and Battenburg for American favourites like Red Velvet Cake and Whoopie Pie.
All the women have their secrets and heartaches to heal. As well cupcakes galore, there’s also the chance for romance…But will making Whoopie lead to love?
The thing that I have come to love about Belinda’s books and is that they are always an education to read.Whether it is travelling escapades or tasty food adventures, they are always literally food for thought. I enjoy disappearing off to cold or exotic climates discovering the places to visit whilst finding out the background to sweet treats with the addition of handsome gentlemen, eccentric and knowledgable elderly women who have the skills to drive double decker buses on the wrong side of of the road!
I thoroughly enjoyed Belinda’s latest book, with her laid-back style of writing, informative and fun facts and a cast of entertaining characters, it was a delight to curl up with this book even if it did leave me salivating at the mouth.
The story is seen from the perspective of Laurie, a travel and food writer who gets the chance to work alongside one of the United Kingdom’s most favourite baker, Pamela Lambert-Leigh. Excited to go on a food journey with Pamela for her upcoming book, Laurie is in for a surprise when she is faced with unexpected problems such as spoilt daughters and a handsome gentleman from Harvard who catches her eye. This book is a delicious story and one that I certainly enjoyed. A lovely addition in the book is the inclusion of Krista who is Laurie’s best friend and was also the leading lady in Belinda’s previous book ‘Winter Wonderland’ and gives an update of where she is now in life with her relationship with Jacques.
With a pretty and feminine cover. ‘The Travelling Tea Shop’ is an adorable and heartwarming story of food, friendship and love filled with travelling and packed with cake this book is scrumptious guilt free treat minus the calories!
