Claire’s husband is a philandering sexologist but it breaks her heart when he is killed by an absurd collision with a bronze sculpture, leaving her a young widow. As she braces herself for her new life alone, she acquires an eccentric chorus of friends, psychics, storytellers and Jungian shrinks to guide her on her way. Still, Claire can’t help but wonder if her late husband was right when he insisted that love and sex can’t co-exist. After getting through the pain of his passing, she returns to the battlefield of bad dates. When she’s asked to finish writing her husband’s biography of heartthrob movie star Jack Huxley, she surprised when he doesn’t live up to his sleazy reputation. He’s attentive and sweet. He’s intellectual and self-deprecating and gorgeous! Claire’s determined to banish her husband’s ghosts and prove him wrong. But having found her first Mr Right, does she deserve a second?

I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed ‘The Widow’s Guide To Sex And Dating’, I loved how cleverly it was written and seen from an observers distance as we watched Claire’s life and how dramatically and tragically it changed for the poor young woman.

Claire was used to being in her husband’s shadow and now that Charlie is out of her life, she finds herself in the centre of the spotlight and now the attention is all on her. In her role as the lead character, she was quite an interesting one, clever with a sharp wit, she doesn’t like the attention and reaction that she is suddenly getting from people, a threat to married women and a new conquest for men, Claire begins to feel out of place in New York and turns to her vibrant selection of friends for support and comfort providing her with reassurance at this difficult time. The main love interest is Holywood heartthrob Jack Huxley, charming and caring, he provided a shoulder for Claire helping her step tentatively back into the big bad world.

Filled with witty and bizarre characters and scenarios, ‘The Widow’s Guide To Sex And Dating’ is an eye-opening story that shows just how hard it can be to start over again with interesting results.
