[amazon_link id=”1477825029″ target=”_blank” ]What Might Have Been[/amazon_link]”What Might Have Been’ is the latest book by Matt Dunn.

A year ago, Evan and Sarah shared one incredible night. Then Evan’s music—the thing that brought them together—suddenly tore them apart. Since then, Evan’s not been able to forget about her. And try as she might, Sarah can’t seem to get over him either. With time running out, Evan’s got one last chance to convince her that the two of them were meant to be. But is one night enough for Sarah to make a decision about the rest of her life—even if it was the best night of her life? And if she doesn’t believe in love at first sight, how can Evan persuade her that what they had will last?

Matt Dunn is back with a new book and this one kept me up late, as I couldn’t put the complicated love story down. Matt Dunn has become one of my favourite authors, he writes entertaining love stories, doesn’t overwrite the love and mush and with the right injection of wit and characters makes his story for riveting reading. His writing is sharp just like his wit and his stories are about relatable characters that you feel a genuine connection and concern for.

In’ What Might Have Been’ the story is seen through the eyes of Sarah and Evan. A couple who got together one night, made a connection but ended up being pulled apart due to Evan being offered a huge job opportunity in America that Sarah urged him to take on. Having never fully got over each other, Evan returns to London with the intention of rekindling the romance but Sarah has moved on and gotten engaged to her boss.

In alternating chapters, we see the characters as their feelings develop, as Evan deals with Sarah’s engagement and revelations of events that happened in the year when he was away. Whilst Sarah struggles with her emotions, caught in a turmoil, where David her boss offers her security and reliability but Evan reminds her of passion and a lust of life that she has never experienced before. Caught between two men, we see Sarah, quite a level headed and confident woman, used to being in control, at a crossroad in her life, questioning whether her love for Evan is real or whether she has only feelings for him as because he reminds of the life that she used to have when her father was alive .as like Evan was also a saxophone player. Whereas David is slightly traditional in his viewpoints offers her a future without complications. I loved Evan and thought he was the perfect leading man, charismatic with a big heart, he’s fallen hard for Sarah and never has he experienced such strong feelings for someone that he cannot imagine her in his life and does everything in his power to convince her otherwise.

As well as two great leading characters, there are other great characters in the book who make the story fun such as Mel, Evan’s boss who always has a wise word to say and David, Sarah’s fiancee, a sleazy and chauvinist man.

I loved the alternating chapters between the characters as it give an interesting and witty accounts of how both Evan and Sarah were thinking and how easily wires can be crossed.

With an extremely eye-catching cover, ‘What Might Have Been’ is an addictive page turner of a story, with laugh out moments and genuine heartwarming characters.
