Yours Truly by Kirsty Greenwood
“Yours Truly” is the first book by fellow book blogger and creator of Novelicious website, Kirsty Greenwood and what a marvellous read it was!
Newly engaged Natalie Butterworth is an easy-going girl. She’ll do anything for a quiet life and if telling a few teensy white lies keeps her friends and family happy, then so what? It’s not like they’ll ever discover what she’s really thinking…
Until one night, thanks to a pub hypnotist, Natalie’s most private thoughts begin to bubble up and pop out of her mouth. Things get very messy indeed, especially when some sticky home truths offend her fiancé.
Natalie must track down the hypnotist before her wedding is officially cancelled. So along with bad influence bestie Meg, Natalie finds herself in the Yorkshire Parish of Little Trooley – a small village bursting with big secrets, nosy old folk and intriguing Wellington-wearing men.
When the girls get stuck in the village with no means of escape and no way to break the hypnotist’s spell, Natalie is forced to face the truths she has been avoiding her whole life…
Written in a short, snappy style, I consumed this book in one day over the Christmas break. I immediately loved our poor heroine Natalie, as she struggled to put her own feelings aside and put others first. And then she is unable to tell lies, that was when the fun really began, as awkward and hilarious situations appear at every opportunity as she unintentionally hurts and insults people along the way.
There were many reasons why I loved this book. I loved the humour and snappy repertoire that Natalie had with her bolshy sister and guilt-ridden mother. The unlikely characters in the small backward village, but I particularly enjoyed Natalie, as she reminded me a bit of myself in some situations.
“Yours Truly” is a outstanding triumphant of a book which is well worthy to be at the top of both the Humour and Women’s Fiction categories. Packed with wit and snappy dialogue that will have you chuckling throughout, “Yours Truly” is definately my ebook of 2012! Having been compared to the wonderful Sophie Kinsella, Kirsty Greenwood is an author to look out for in the near future.
