Helen is determined to find Brody and have the second date. During this quest, Helen finds herself, looking up her grandmother’s long lost lover whilst meeting a historian blogger called Ish.

I loved this story and I adored Helen. She’s a romantic and wants to find the one. A bakery blogger, she’s trying to build her platform and audience but it’s taking longer than she hope on She’s kind and thinks that after finding Brody and his sweet words that he could be her forever. But, when she doesn’t hear from him with the help of her two best friend Sophie and Elle and then Ish, a quirky historian befriends her and joins her on her quest.

This story is a fantastic love story that drifts between the bustling streets of London and the beaches of Cornwall. The cast of characters are a great mix of personalities, the fieriness of Elle, the sharp wit of Nanny G, along with the quirky kindness of Ish. Sweetly written, ‘The First Last Date’ is a story of hope, adventure and new beginnings.

So Happy For You By Celia Laskey

So Happy For Yo‘So Happy For You’ is the latest book by Celia Laskey.

Robin and Ellie have been best friends since childhood. They’ve been through everything together, from Robin coming out to the death of Ellie’s dad. But when Ellie asks Robin to be her maid of honour, Robin is reluctant. It’s not that Robin isn’t happy for Ellie; she just hates everything about weddings and marriage—plus the guy Ellie’s engaged to. There’s also the matter of the crazy (not to mention dangerous) wedding rituals that couples are resorting to in the hope of securing a lifetime of happiness. Despite her misgivings, Robin finally says yes. But as the wedding day approaches, she gets the feeling that everyone in the bridal party is out to get her. And it seems Ellie is willing to do anything for the perfect day. After all, marriage is about sacrifice.

Nothing could have prepared me for the twists and drama in this book, which I thought was initially a quirky spin on ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, but it really was quite the comedic and dark story.

Robin and Ellie have been best friends since childhood living in each other’s pockets but as they become older. They become polar opposites, Ellie becomes obsessed with finding the one and getting married whilst Robin, an outspoken feminist hates the concept of marriage and sees it as an antiquated tradition and is content living with her girlfriend Aimee.

But despite their differences, when Ellie finally becomes engaged, she asks Robin to become her maid of honour and under Ellie’s pressure and guilt, Robin reluctantly agrees. As the big day gets closer, Ellie becomes more unhinged and manic determined to have the perfect day, no matter the cost.

I loved this story, it’s witty, it’s dark and really focuses on societal pressures to settle down but giving it a bit of spin with the clever storyline. I initially didn’t like Robin, I found her brash and outspoken but as the story progressed, I loved her.

She was fun, committed and even though she doesn’t believe in marriage, she supported Ellie. Ellie was an astonishing character, taking the term ‘bridezilla’ to a whole new level, she was manipulative and manic with her behaviour and quite regularly through the story, her actions shocked me!

This story is a great book that I highly recommend. It’s dark, witty and really delves into the incredible pressure that women are put under to have the perfect wedding and marriage.

From strange traditions and charms, ‘So Happy For You’ is a story of friendship, drama and forgiveness and I loved every second of it!

A week at a beautiful chateau in the south of France – it should be a straightforward final job for Dora. She’s a smart, stunning and discreet escort and Daniel has paid for her services before. This time, all she has to do is to convince the assembled guests that she is his girlfriend. Dora is used to playing roles and being whatever men want her to be. It’s all about putting on a front. One last chance. It will be a last, luxurious look at how the other half lives, before Dora turns her back on the escort world and all its dangers. She has found someone she loves and trusts. One last secret. Dora finds herself face-to-face with a man she has never forgotten, the one man who really knows her. And as old secrets surface, it becomes terrifyingly apparent that one last secret could cost Dora her life…

It’s publication day for Adele’s latest book and it’s another gripping thriller with a fantastic protagonist.

Becoming an escort wasn’t Dora’s first career choice but it was a way of making a regular income. But when a client decides to take it one step too far in a vicious attack, with the encouragement from her best friend Evan, Dora decides to give it all up. Dora decides to do one last job, which leaves her in terrible danger.

I’m a huge fan of Adele’s, even before when she wrote female fiction, her books were something that I gobbled up greedily and this latest book was racing thriller that pulled me in.

I always worry that when reviewing Adele’s books that I’ll give something away because in her books, things are never what they seem. And this latest book is exactly that. Dora is a great character, she’s sassy and enjoys the lavish lifestyle that being an escort provides. She’s quick and a chameleon with having to adapt to different characters and personalities. And it’s interesting to see her so confident and assertive suddenly seem unsure in her new settings, surrounded by people that seem very suspicious.

Unsettling, deeply dark and wonderfully escaping ‘One Last Secret’ is another glorious book by delivered Adele, that’s fast paced and riddled with suspense.

Deadly Little Lies By Stephanie DeCarolis

Deadly Little Lies‘Deadly Little Lies’ is the latest book by Stephanie DeCarolis.

Juliana Daniels finally has the life she’s always dreamed of. A loving husband, a career as an attorney, and a cozy apartment in Manhattan to call home. But when she gets a message from an old college friend, her blood runs cold. Remember me? Juliana drops her phone as though she’s been scalded. The name Jenny Teller shines out from the screen… but Jenny can’t have sent that message. Because Jenny is dead. Juliana’s other college friends have all received the same message. The four of them are the only ones who know the truth about the night Jenny died. It’s a secret they have kept buried for thirteen years. With ‘Jenny’ now blackmailing them and threatening to expose their secret, only one thing is certain. Someone else knows the truth about that night… or one of them is lying.

If you enjoy a good thriller that keeps you on your toes then look no further as ‘Deadly Little Lies’ has all the makings of a gripping drama.

Written in the past and present tense through the eyes of Julianna, who’s married and happy in her job. Until one day, her past pops up and the secrets that she’s kept hidden are coming to the surface. But it’s not only her that’s being threatened but her college friends Tori and Nessa. Making them all suspicious of each other as well as former friend and all round nasty girl Emily who enjoyed tormenting her peers in college.

The story flows at a fast paced speed that immediately held my attention as it flowed in different tenses and really set the story up nicely. Giving a clear insight into each character’s role and involvement leading up to the present time.

Right from offset I liked Julia, from her college days when she’s insecure and lacking in confidence and wanting to be liked by her friends and boys and how she blossoms into a confident woman who’s settled in her life. She makes for a relatable but also fascinating protagonist in the story, as she leaves the reader with uncertainty at times and makes it difficult to judge others at times.

Riddled with drama, suspense, college bitchiness and veiled threats, ‘Deadly Little Lies’ is a cleverly written psychological thriller that made for tense reading!

You can pre-order ‘Deadly Little Lies’ from Amazon and will be available to buy from good bookshops from 26th November 2021.

Last Girl Ghosted By Lisa Unger

Last Girl Ghosted‘Last Girl Ghosted’ is the 19th book by Lisa Unger.

When Wren Greenwood meets a good-looking stranger from a dating app, she expects a casual fling – but they connect immediately. Adam Harper is her perfect match. She falls for him. She confides in him. And then he disappears… his profiles deleted, his phone disconnected, his Manhattan apartment emptied. First, Wren blames herself. Then she hears about the other girls – girls who fell in love with Adam, and are now missing. Wren needs answers, but as she follows the breadcrumb trail Adam left behind, it leads back to her own dark past. Suddenly, she’s no longer sure if she’s predator or prey. She only knows one thing: whatever it takes, she’ll be the last girl he ever ghosts…

The night social media switched off, I was blissfully unaware as I was absorbed in this book.

Tense and thrilling from the first page, Lisa writes a fast paced thriller with a fascinating protagonist and an even more fascinating back story.

The story is seen through the narrative of Wren, a successful problem solver who decides to give love a go and sign up to a dating app called Torch where she meets Adam. They fall in love and then just as he’s about to ask her something important, he disappears.

Detective Bailey then comes into her life and is trying to find a man who matches Adam’s description involving three other women and Wren starts her own in investigation into his disappearance and ends up revisiting old ghosts and memories.

Thr story is also seen in a past sequence and this makes for interesting reading as it’s seen from the narrative of a child living in fear of a controlling father who’s obsessed about the end of the world. The innocence and the naivety of the child makes for poignant reading as they try to keep their father happy as well and keep their family together.

Wren is a great character, with a background in problem solving with a blog and podcast series called ‘Dear Birdie’, people write in with their problems and with her best friend called Jax they offer advice. She’s kind, sweet with secrets and thought that meeting Adam who was handsome, charismatic and promised her the dream would finally find her happy ever after.

‘Last Girl Ghosted’ is an interesting and dark twist on ghosting that’s cleverly written, addictive and atmospheric.
